The Old Potting Shed is a distinctive nursery situated within the historic Coombe Lodge Estate in Blagdon. It operates as part of the YMCA Dulverton Group, a charitable organisation committed to enhancing the lives of young individuals across North Somerset, Somerset, and Devon.
The nursery is composed of two primary sections: The Stables, providing 15 spaces for infants, and The Old Potting Shed, accommodating 45 toddlers and pre-schoolers. The curriculum strongly emphasises outdoor, play-based learning, incorporating a Forest School methodology to foster intellectual stimulation, physical well-being, and a nurturing start to each child's educational journey.
The setting leverages its picturesque surroundings to offer an enriching and engaging environment for children.

Inclusion & environment
The manager organises a broad curriculum to meet the learning and development needs of all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Knowledgeable and experienced staff support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) very well. Staff work closely with parents and professional agencies to put in place targeted support to help all children make the best possible progress and prepare them for the next stage of their learning journey.
In the garden, staff engage children in activities using clay and natural materials, allowing them to exercise their muscles by digging and transporting water. However, the outside area does not fully support all aspects of the curriculum for children who learn better outdoors.
I have 2 little ones, my son is in seedling 0-2 section, there's lots of variety for him, indoor soft play and plenty of outside space. My daughter is in the saplings section which is its very own secret garden wonderland. Really promoting the at one with nature. My daughter has more emotional needs and I have really felt they are really observing what her needs are. The facilities are fantastic and the people go above and beyond for you. On the practical side it is very easy to park outside and rather give you a detailed report on what your child's activities have been that day, you can tell the time is spent with your child.
Read on GoogleAn amazing place, wonderful staff who really care and know how to create a loving, safe and nurturing environment. The nursery is in a stunning setting with so many resources and things for the children to do. It feels more like a family than a nursery. Food is cooked onsite so no corner cutting and the facilities are brilliant (indoor and outdoor). Highly recommended.
