About this day nursery

Tops Day Nurseries - Parkstone, established in 1998, operates as a childcare setting in Poole, Dorset, catering to children aged 1 to 5 years. Open all year round, from 6am to 8pm on weekdays, it closes only for Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day.

The nursery received a 'Good' rating from Ofsted in its latest inspection on 22/07/2022. Children here are described as happy and secure, benefiting from staff who know them well and offer consistent support and praise.

The curriculum is thoughtfully planned around children's abilities and interests, ensuring they are absorbed in their learning. For instance, babies engage in sensory play with flour and animals, while older children explore self-portraits with mirrors, fostering an understanding of their uniqueness.

The nursery places a strong emphasis on independence from the baby room, where gentle guidance helps with tasks like face wiping, progressing to older children clearing plates and washing up. Environmental care is integrated into learning, with resources predominantly made from natural materials and artwork displayed proudly made from recycled items.

The setting provides targeted support for children at risk of falling behind, helping them meet developmental milestones. Children have ample opportunity for outdoor learning in the large garden areas.

Staff utilise a 'daily mile' activity to enhance physical development, which children enjoy and report feeling their hearts beat faster. Pre-schoolers also benefit from quiet yoga sessions to understand emotional well-being.

Parents generally report good partnerships with staff, though some may experience delays in receiving information and require more support.

If could give zero stars i would. The care of my daughter wasn't the best. Always short staffed, losing belongings etc. Constantly picking her soaking wet and waiting and the door for 20mins to collect after a long day at work.

I have reviews previously, but now that my other daughter is at nursery I felt I needed to yet again try and put into words how lovely and amazing the staff is. My two girls are absolutely obsessed with going to nursery, they are both always so happy to go in. Both my girls’s development has been amazing since they started at nursery. The staff is brilliant and so caring! I can honestly say I can go to work and be at ease knowing they are well looked after, safe and most importantly… they are happy.

Tops have been wonderful for two of my daughters, one of which is autistic and no other nursery would have her! She is at school now but one daughter is in investigators. Their communication is amazing. Their staff are so lovely. They are friendly, helpful, knowledgable, non judgmental and it feels like the nursery is an extension of home when I drop my daughter off. Thank you tops for being a place that I know my daughter enjoys spending her time!
