About this day nursery

West Looe Nursery, established over 50 years ago as a traditional playgroup, underwent extensive refurbishment in April 2021 to meet the evolving needs of parents, expanding its offerings to provide care for infants from 3 months old up to children aged 8 years. The nursery operates as a registered charity, which allows it to access various grants and funding opportunities, directly benefiting the nursery and its attendees.

A dedicated committee oversees the nursery's operations, focusing on fundraising and supporting staff, children, and their families. Situated on Down’s Road in West Looe, the nursery boasts panoramic views of the rivers and woods.

Its facilities feature bright and spacious rooms complemented by cosy areas for relaxation. The staff, drawing on rich local knowledge, integrates the beautiful surrounding environment into the children's experiences, fostering a strong connection to the community.

How they support every child

Outdoor space

Staff talk with children about the weather when outside so children can connect descriptions to what they see and feel, and children are learning about safety because equipment is often wet from the rain. Children are starting to risk assess for themselves; for example, they make a pretend bonfire and decide to put cones around it to ensure it is safe.

West Looe playgroup is such a friendly and welcoming playgroup and nursery. My daughter settled in immediately and all of the staff are so helpful and kind. The staff also prepared her for school brilliantly which made her transition to school so easy. My son now attends and thoroughly enjoys his time there. He has made special relationships with his key workers and its so comforting to see the bonds he has made. The large play areas are ideal for the children and the options for play are endless. All the staff are amazing professionals and nothing is ever too much to ask them. I could not recommend enough.
