The White House Nursery in Alfreton provides a welcoming and enriching environment for children from 3 months to 5 years old. This all-year-round nursery prioritises a safe and stimulating atmosphere for learning, play, and development.
The facility boasts air-conditioned rooms, thorough CCTV coverage, and secure facial recognition entry systems to ensure children's safety and comfort. They offer both full-year and term-time contracts to accommodate varying family needs, accepting various government funding schemes and Tax-Free Childcare to make early years education accessible and affordable.
The nursery features distinct units tailored for babies (0-2 years), toddlers (2-3 years), and preschoolers (3-5 years), each designed with age-appropriate facilities, including kitchenettes and access to outdoor spaces. The baby unit enjoys a dedicated roof garden, while toddler and preschool units have direct access to a large communal garden.
The extensive outdoor area encourages exploration of nature with a grassed play area, cycle track, allotment, mud kitchen, outdoor classroom, and nature trail. The dedicated team, led by Shelby, the Nursery Manager, and Hannah, the Deputy Manager, focuses on fostering confidence, friendships, and essential skills for each child's educational journey.
The nursery also offers settling-in sessions, stay and play sessions, parent app updates, and progress reports with a key worker, alongside specialist SEND support, and all staff are enhanced DBS checked and first aid trained.
What it's like

Nappy changes are positive experiences, promoting privacy and supporting children's speaking skills.
The nursery offers funding stretched over 51 weeks of the year or on a term-time basis over 38 weeks. For stretched funding places, there is a daily charge for meals. Fees cover freshly prepared meals, snacks, and drinks.

Inclusion & environment
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are supported well by staff. Referrals to other professionals are made in a timely manner and their involvement supports staff to identify specific targets to meet children's needs. This includes staff using pictures to help children with SEND to understand and follow routines in the day.
Staff use distraction, such as taking children outdoors, to help them settle when they first start.
However, staff do not identify further ways they can support children who speak English as an additional language with their language development.
Our children have been attending the nursery since 2023, and it has truly been such a special part of our family’s journey. Our eldest has now moved on, and our youngest is currently in the preschool room, but throughout this time the nursery has played such an important role in their early years. Watching them grow in confidence, independence and happiness has been incredibly reassuring as a parent. What makes the White House so special is the people. Over the past two years I’ve had the pleasure of building genuine relationships with so many of the staff, which has made such a difference as a parent. A special thank you to Lisa, both Hannah’s, Brandon and Zara, who I’ve spoken with consistently and who have always been so warm, approachable and supportive. It never feels like just a drop-off and pick-up — they truly take the time to connect with both the children and their families. The entire team deserves recognition, especially the preschool staff where our youngest is currently. The care, patience and enthusiasm they show every day creates such a nurturing, positive environment for the children to learn and grow. It’s clear that every member of staff genuinely cares about the children and takes pride in the role they play in shaping these important early years. As a parent, there’s nothing more comforting than knowing your children are somewhere they feel safe, happy and valued. We are so grateful for everything the nursery and its amazing staff have done for our family, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to other parents.
