The latest Ofsted inspection, on 28th June 2021, rated the nursery as Good overall, with Outstanding for leadership and management and personal development. Children attending Wickham Bishops Nursery learn about risk assessment, even helping to ensure the main gate is padlocked for safety.

The curriculum encourages excellent imaginative skills, with children creating and sharing stories, and developing high levels of self-esteem through encouraging relationships with staff. The nursery provides excellent learning opportunities that make a real difference to all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and children have opportunities for outdoor learning.

Staff are highly skilled at supporting children's development in areas such as shapes and numbers, and provide a nurturing environment where children can engage in sensory play and learn at their own pace. Parents consistently praise the staff team for their dedication and for going above and beyond to support children's understanding and well-being.

What it's like to attend

Inspector highlights

  • Staff work extremely well, taking account of each child's backgrounds and experiences. They use this information to secure success for every child.
  • Teaching is of an exceptional quality and interaction is consistently meaningful for the child and sensitive to their learning styles.
  • Children demonstrate a growing knowledge of shapes and numbers. They confidently identify groups of different amounts, counting out seven or four shells respectively and identifying the correct numeral that represents these values.
  • Children enjoy sensory play, manipulating dough, or chalking and splashing in bubbly water. They concentrate extremely well as they fish for sea creatures.
  • Parents speak very highly of the staff team. They talk about how staff go over and above their expectations, for example, studying topics that interest their children, to extend their understanding.

An OFSTED-graded Outstanding nursery, and OFSTED is absolutely correct. Held in a bright, clean, modern village hall with caring and well-qualified and motivated staff.
