YMCA Showroom Pre-School Playgroup, established in 2021, is a full-day care setting located in Lincoln that caters to children aged 0-3 years. Open year-round from Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, the nursery provides a welcoming environment where children are happy and quickly settle.

The dedicated staff, of whom three hold Level 3 and two hold Level 2 early years qualifications, support children in confidently selecting activities and engaging in imaginative play. The nursery’s curriculum is designed to help children develop age-appropriate knowledge and skills, with a strong focus on communication and language development through various assessment and teaching strategies, including a language screening tool.

While most children benefit from independent exploration times, some with special educational needs and/or disabilities may find it challenging to maintain focus, though their positive behaviour ensures no disruption to the wider group. Staff are attentive and caring, fostering good self-esteem and emotional security, and promote healthy habits through access to fresh water and hygiene reminders.

The nursery also works to build positive partnerships with parents, although some parents have expressed a desire for more information about their child’s development and clarity on their child’s key person. Overall, YMCA Showroom Pre-School Playgroup received a "Good" rating in its latest Ofsted inspection on 12/01/2024.

What it's like

Children are happy and settle quickly into the nursery, confidently selecting activities and playing together with imagination. Staff support their ideas and vocabulary, helping them make connections in their learning. Children behave well and follow staff directions, which helps to keep them safe.
