Inclusion & environment
All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, communicate their needs effectively. Staff know children well, which means they understand their verbal and nonverbal cues.
Older children enjoy outdoor learning, but the outdoor learning space is not as accessible for the youngest children. While they enjoy the fresh air, staff do not always ensure that they are able to access purposeful learning when outdoors.
When our little daughter turned three, we decided it was time for her to start a new chapter in her life. We’re not native English speakers, and our little treasure was the first and only child from our background in the nursery – so in many ways, we were learning everything together with her. The staff were incredibly patient and understanding, always explaining the things we didn’t know. At first, our daughter struggled to settle in, but thanks to the right approach and the dedication of everyone around her, that very first day – which looked exactly as you might imagine – quickly turned into the last day she left the nursery smiling, waving happily and saying “bye”. And for her, that was a big achievement! When choosing a nursery, we were deciding between this one and a larger one just around the corner. In the end, it was the homely, cosy atmosphere here, and the warmth of the people who guided us through those first hours, that made us feel this was the right place. The whole team at Ashbourne Day Nurseries at Ingol are very special people. As we had no previous experience with nurseries in England, we didn’t know what to expect. Luckily, right from the very beginning, Bea – who showed us around – made us feel at home, patiently explaining how everything works and what to expect. Helen became the closest person to our daughter at the nursery. Her support, professionalism, quick response to any doubts, and willingness to help us solve problems made us feel we were truly in the right place with the right people. We felt your support every step of the way – and that meant so much to us, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Lisa – always smiling – whose smile works like a magnet and seems to say: “Come in, today will be another good day.” You are such a warm-hearted person, a beautiful soul – and for us your smile was often a way to brighten our own day. We believe it was the same for our daughter too. Ben – you made the nursery feel even more authentic. Your creativity, sense of humour and endless ideas meant there was never a dull moment – always full of fun, but with safety always kept first. Our daughter spoke about the three of you the most, so we thank you especially. Of course, the whole team together with the other carers make this place truly unique. And none of this would have been possible without Nicola, whose commitment to the nursery is real and visible every day. Whenever problems arose, she reacted quickly and decisively, and we always felt seen and heard. There’s a saying: “Every child you help to grow will one day change the world – because they will create it anew.” Thanks to you, we look to the future with a little more courage. Thank you, on behalf of Zosia.
