About this day nursery

Brenchley Preschool is dedicated to fostering the early development of children in a nurturing and supportive environment. The preschool, which started in 1964 as the Brenchley and Matfield Nursery Group with just 22 children, has grown significantly over the years.

It became a Private Limited Company in 2004 and moved to its current location on the Brenchley & Matfield Primary School grounds in 2012. Today, Brenchley Preschool caters to over 90 children and boasts a team of twelve qualified staff members.

The preschool prides itself on its dedicated and enthusiastic staff, who are highly trained and knowledgeable, providing an excellent foundation for children's education. The curriculum emphasises individualised attention, considering each child's unique preferences, habits, routines, cultures, and lifestyles to build resilient, independent, and confident individuals.

A key person approach is implemented to ensure strong attachments between individual children and their families, offering comfort and security that allows children to confidently explore and try new things. The preschool is managed by a parent-led committee, which voluntarily oversees governance, fundraising, and financial stability, actively encouraging parental involvement to support the preschool’s continuous provision of high-quality care and education.

Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

SEND provision

Leaders have a clear and ambitious vision for providing high-quality care and education to all, showing a commitment to staff's development and well-being. They support staff with professional training which is relevant to the children's needs in the setting, particularly those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Leaders tailor the curriculum to support all children, including those with SEND, and adapt their teaching with resources such as visual communication boards to help all children make good progress with their language development.

Outdoor space

Staff boost children's self-esteem as they join in with physical play, such as climbing, crossing a bridge, and jumping from a higher step, supporting their developing gross motor skills. Children excitedly roll down a grassy slope, and older children use language such as 'more' and 'less' while scooping pebbles in the garden.

My eldest - calm and sensible child - went to Brenchley Preschool and now my youngest - strong-willed and adventurous - goes there. They both thrived! The preschool really gets to know the children well and caters for their needs. It sets them up for school so well and both my children love it!

We've been using Brenchley pre-school since September 2020. It has such a caring feel to it with lovely staff. The outdoor area is a bonus. My daughter is very happy going there as were my two children before her. I wouldn't send them anywhere else! A truly wonderful environment for little ones.

My daughter has recently joined Brenchley Preschool and we couldn't be happier. She has developed a lovely bond and friendship with Zena her key worker and talks about her all the time. We get th most detailed updates about what she has been up to, who she is playing with which we look forward to reading. She is so excited to go in every morning and has a big smile on her face at pick up. The staff are all so friendly and it feels like a close, caring family. Thank you for everything Brenchley Preschool!

Having taken my eldest there(now 7) and now my littlest (2 yrs) I can hands down say it's one of the best preschools I've ever come across. They are all friendly and welcoming and have all the children's best interests at heart. They go above and beyond and my child is ALWAYS excited to go to preschool which says a lot!! My eldest had the best experience and now my youngest is and as its above the primary school it's perfe t for parents who have children in both primary and preschool. Cant recommend them enough!! All the teachers are lovely and connect with the children individually. It's a small setting so i know that my child is getting the attention she deserves. They all deserve a medal and I highly recommend getting on the waiting list ASAP!!!

My son currently attends this brilliant preschool and my daughter, now 7, went there too. When searching 4 years ago for a place to send my daughter, no other local preschool impressed us on the level Brenchley did. When my son was born, I immediately put his name down as I couldn’t imagine sending him elsewhere! The classrooms, facilities and garden are fantastic, and the support from the staff is exceptional. I would more than recommend sending your child here!
