BrightStart Day Nurseries has been a cornerstone of early childhood education in North & East Hull since 2005, providing high-quality and affordable childcare across its six nurseries and an Out of School Club in Bransholme. With a focus on creating a homely atmosphere, each individual setting aims to cater to the unique needs of children and their families, while also benefiting from the robust support system of a larger organisation.

This includes extensive staff development, training, and recruitment processes, ensuring a dedicated and highly skilled team. The nurseries offer nurturing baby and toddler rooms, designed as a "Home from Home" environment for younger children, with a low adult-to-child ratio of 1:3 to guarantee individual attention.

These spaces promote tactile play, storytelling, physical activities, and the use of high-quality educational resources to foster social skills, imagination, communication, and creative play. The preschools are vibrant hubs of activity, encouraging a love of learning through open-ended play resources and staff engagement.

A key pedagogical focus is on nature, outdoor play, authentic resources, and "Loose Parts," empowering children to lead their own learning journeys, sparking curiosity, awe, and wonder with the guidance of trained staff. The nursery group is committed to developing future practitioners through a successful apprenticeship programme established in 2009.

Staff members also hold essential certifications in Paediatric First Aid and Basic Food Hygiene, and the team includes specialists in Special Educational Needs, Family Support Practitioners, and leads in Learning & Development.

Our ethos

Our staff are highly skilled and work passionately to deliver our Ethos. Nature, outdoor play, using authentic resources and “Loose Parts” is a key focus in our preschools ensuring children can lead their own learning and spark their imagination, curiosity, awe & wonder with the support of our highly trained staff. Gone is the confinement of toys with one purpose, we are caring & educating the next generation who will inherit the earth, let's give them the tools to do it.

What it's like

Children are greeted warmly and confidently settle into the routine. Staff promote children's well-being by encouraging them to share their feelings, supporting and nurturing them throughout the day. Staff have high expectations of children's behaviour, helping them to reflect on their actions, regulate their behaviour, and feel safe and secure.

Pricing & funding

Fees are reviewed annually in April. Most locations include meals, snacks, and consumables within their fees, though nappies are excluded. At certain sites, parents must provide a packed lunch and nappies, with optional hot meals available for an additional fee.
