Inclusion & environment
Staff demonstrate their extensive knowledge of how to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. They have effective plans in place to work collaboratively with parents and professionals. Leaders strive to ensure that all children have access to their full early years education entitlement.
Children play together in the garden, talking about the different vegetables they have grown this year. They dig in the soil and carefully examine the roots of potato plants. Staff extend children's knowledge and discuss how roots absorb nutrients from the soil.
My son attended for just over four months. During that time, he was repeatedly exposed to harm from other children, including being scratched and bitten on multiple occasions, many of which were not recorded. The concern is not that children sometimes behave this way, but that these incidents were never seen or prevented in the moment. Staff would only become aware afterwards by reviewing CCTV footage. This is especially worrying given that certain children were already known to be boisterous, yet there appeared to be no direct supervision to safeguard all children. We were given repeated explanations such as being understaffed or having too many children in one small room. Even after more staff joined, and despite the summer months when children could be outside more, these incidents continued. I am not the only parent to remove my child or raise concerns, not only about the physical harm, but also about the smell and general environment inside the small rooms.
