Carlton and Gedling Day Nursery, part of Bear Care Day Nurseries, boasts a long-standing reputation in Nottinghamshire for providing excellent childcare and education since 1984. The nursery fosters a warm and friendly atmosphere, offering a diverse range of activities tailored to the needs of each age group.
Children benefit from expert care by fully trained and experienced staff, alongside a structured programme designed to promote development. Each child is assigned a key person who provides individual support, monitors progress through observations, and maintains a development file accessible to parents.
The facility spans two floors, with dedicated spaces for babies, younger toddlers, and older toddlers downstairs, including a stimulating baby unit, spacious toddler rooms, and a unique two-level soft play area with a ball pool. Upstairs caters to pre-schoolers and an out-of-school club, offering areas for various types of play and access to computers, aligning activities with the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Outdoors, the nursery features a large, shady garden with artificial grass and an extensive soft-surface playground, much of which is covered by a purpose-built canopy, allowing for outdoor play in all weather conditions. The nursery also emphasises community engagement through visits to local attractions and maintains strong relationships with local schools, offering pick-up and drop-off services for its Out of School Club.

Verbatim quotes recorded in the Ofsted inspection
"parents are overwhelmingly positive and state that staff work hard to meet the needs of their children."
"They feel their children are progressing well, and they know what their children are involved with at nursery."
Inclusion & environment
Leaders and managers work closely with families and other professionals to ensure early help is put in place for those that require additional support.
Children thoroughly enjoy outdoor play. Staff have created an environment that presents appropriate risk and challenge for children, such as climbing felled trees or engaging in parachute games.
I signed my son up to this nursery in early April. I secured his place by paying a deposit which I was assured would secure his space. I was told that because I was signing up nice and early, there was plenty of space for him and not to worry. In fact, they told me to take my time looking around different nurseries to make sure I found the one for us. I made sure I signed up as early as I could as it was something I had been worried about and had been suffering with anxiety following his birth. Last week (August) I had a phone call to say that the nursery no longer had a place for him as they had “made an error”. I was told that because it wasn’t my fault, they would give me a refund. Fast forward week and I have sent multiple emails chasing my payment only to be fobbed off with excuses. I’ve now finally received it. This nursery have let me down more than they could ever know. I looked around multiple settings to make sure I chose “the one” and none of the other options are now available as it is too late. I’ve arranged my return to work but now do not have anywhere that I’m happy with, to send my son. I have double the anxiety I had before and feel completely let down by the nursery, I don’t feel that the manager really cares about what has happens and a few people have asked me if the “mistake” was made because there was a friend who was promised our space instead. I would just say that before considering this nursery, be 100% sure that you’re not going to be let down. I hate leaving bad reviews but this HAD to be left as I am in such a terrible position now, after what’s happened.
Read on GoogleCouldn’t recommend this nursery enough. After having some issues with previous nurseries with one of my children I was very nervous in putting my trust into another nursery, but they put my mind at ease, my child has attended this nursery for a year now and is thriving. I find all staff very welcoming and every staff member including the manager all have lovely bonds with all the children despite them not necessarily working within the same room as the children. They are all very aware of every child’s needs such as dietary requirements, additional needs and they all go above and beyond to ensure every child has a great day at nursery. From the moment my child started in the baby room we had daily dairies which told us about their day with pictures to show which you can take home and share with the family and the babies enjoy looking through there personal dairies. The owner is very approachable and goes above and beyond to ensure she’s helping the best she can she is always spending time in rooms and the nursery creating bonds with the children and their families which is lovely to see as in some place the owners aren’t always approachable.
Read on GoogleMy daughter has been full time at Bearcare and has just completed her pre-school graduation. Only have great things to say about this nursery as it was the best decision we made for her social and academic preparation before school. Attentive and well trained staff who really 'care' about the wellbeing of all children with a strong focus on personal / emotional development. I see a more confident and well rounded daughter as a result thanks to the hard working team and management at Bearcare. Thank you for everything. Colin x
Read on GoogleThere's never been anywhere else I'd rather take my children than Bear care! During the time my son and daughter spent there they always received excellent care and learning opportunities along with a warm welcome each day and a safe homely environment. Highly recommended.
Read on GoogleAll 3 of my children have attended bearcare over the years... Dating back to 2001 when our journey with the nursery first began... Now, having 2 granddaughters who started their nursery chapter in 2021, exactly 20 years after our journey first began, who absolutely love attending nursery.... both girls having grown in confidence, developed very good social skills, built fabulous relationships with all staff, especially their key workers Michelle and Rosanna, whom are two of the staff members that originally cared for my own children and now caring for my grandchildren... which is absolutely priceless, in my opinion, just goes to show how passionate these staff members are to still be working within this profession. And it certainly put my sons mind at rest knowing these ladies who cared so well for him, would be caring for his own children... And now with a third grandchild starting in January 2025, my daughter didn't even look at any other nursery establishment but decided straight away, this was the place for her knowing her nieces are thriving and love the setting just sealed the deal. Carlton and Gedling was a great nursery 25+ years ago and is just as fabulous now. Staff are very caring and attentive, are always willing to help and support you in any way they can... It's a rarerity now a days, having such long term staff. Even the younger generation workforce whom are there to work and train, are caring, attentive towards the children. And that's all you can ask of them. Bearcare, thank you for everything you have done for us in the past, and want to thank you for the here and now. Everything you do is for the children's best interests and we couldn't ask for anything more. You are all very much appreciated for all you do for the girls on a daily basis. We couldn't imagine them being anywhere else. ❤️❤️❤️ Rosanna Maria Mancini
