Verbatim quotes recorded in the Ofsted inspection
Parents report that they feel 'listened to' and benefit from 'excellent communication and support'.
Parents spoke of staff 'bending over backwards' to help their child.
Inclusion & environment
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are well supported. The manager ensures additional funding is well spent.
The nursery has recently opened a 'sensory shepherd's hut' in the outdoor area, which provides a range of high-quality sensory resources to support children's individual needs. As children use tricycles outside, staff introduce the word 'catastrophe' when children pretend to have a crash.
I would advise parents who are separated with children to steer clear of Chestnut Nursery in Taverham- I have had issues with being added to an ‘app’ which they advice is for parents to stay up to date with their child’s progress and activities during their time at the nursery, despite this app being described by the nursery staff as inclusive of parents, it seems I have been excluded from it due to not being the resident parent because of ill health. I initially viewed the nursery and asked how I would be kept up to date with my child’s progress in nursery- considering the complex family dynamic- this is when the app was explained to me and I was told by the manager that they would happily give me access to this. I made contact with the nursery having not received the link, to query why I had still not received it (roughly 2 weeks after I initially viewed the nursery and asked about their process on updating parents). I was then told I would be sent another link within 15 minutes, after several hours of still not receiving the link as well as checking junk mail, I again made contact with the nursery manager who advised I again look in the junk mail which I did to confirm I had not received the link, she then sent 2 emails from a separate email which I did receive. The advice I was left with was to phone again if I still did not receive it- even though I had made contact on 3 occasions to enquire why I had not received the link to the parents app, after initially being given the impression by the nursery staff that this is a simple process for them to do to be able to include parents. It seems like this failure could be as a result of incompetence, lack of organisational skills or an inability as a team to figure solutions to issues which arise, and also a lack of understanding and willingness to understand family circumstances- other than the typical family unit of ‘mum, dad and child/ren’. I also worry that my disability could potentially be an aspect as to why I have been excluded- being an autistic parent comes with a lack of understanding from a large number of people as well as an inability- from professionals, such as nursery staff it seems- to be flexible with their typical ways of working. Disappointingly, I would strongly recommend to parents who may be in similar situations, to avoid Chestnut nursery entirely, rather than suffer through a fight to be included as a parent in your child’s life.
Read on GoogleIf this nursery cared as much about delivering a standard of care and supervision whilst in charge of children as they do questioning the standard of care children get at home maybe they would have more than a 3 star rating.
Read on GoogleJust wanted to say this is a fantastic nursery, our little girl is always so excited to go, always comes home really eager to tell us what she had learnt during the day. The manager Sam and her team are really doing a fantastic job!
