Humpty Dumpty's Kindergarden, established in 2011 and managed by owner Laura Wood, provides a stimulating and nurturing environment for children aged 0-5 years. Located amidst open spaces, woodlands, and a natural garden, the nursery aims to foster independence, self-confidence, consideration for others, and good manners.

The approach focuses on child-led learning, with practitioners observing children's interests and planning activities "in the moment" that are appropriate for their developmental stages. The nursery embraces the use of natural and everyday objects, such as wood, metal, fabrics, and various textures, to encourage holistic play and exploration.

A key aspect of their philosophy is promoting independence, recognising its importance from babyhood and supporting children in making their own choices. Humpty Dumpty's Kindergarden operates an open-door policy, allowing children free-flow access between indoor and outdoor learning environments.

This provides ample opportunities for physical development, enhancing both fine and gross motor skills through active play in the outdoor spaces. The team is dedicated to exceeding parents' expectations and offering a high standard of care and education, understanding that they are entrusted with a child's most crucial early developmental years.

Laura, with her Early Childhood Studies degree and experience as a mother, brings both professional expertise and personal understanding to the nursery's ethos.

Our ethos

We feel that independence is very important for children’s development as it is a crucial life skill to develop at such a young age. The drive for independence starts from babyhood. Young babies rapidly make decisions about what they play with, what they like to eat and who they prefer to be with. Toddlers will thrive in a healthy environment where they have opportunities to do more and more for themselves. With this in mind, we strive for your child/ren to be as independent as they can be whilst they are with us.The children lead their own learning here at Humpty Dumpty's.Practitioners follow children’s interests and plan activities and opportunities 'In The Moment' for their ages and stages of development. We recognise the benefits of natural and everyday objects for the children to interact with and this is widely used throughout the nursery through holistic play and treasure baskets. These include wood, metal and a range of fabric, textures and colours for the children to explore.Here at Humpty Dumpty’s we operate an open door policy creating free flow access to outside and inside. Free flow play is the term used in the Early Years Foundation Stage to describe a style of play where children have the choice to move indoors and outdoors freely within their learning environment.Whilst outside there are many opportunities for your children to be physical to help develop both their fine and gross motor skills. Outside is a great place for your child/ren to be active. Active play is critical for children's physical development. It helps children with their coordination, balance, gross-motor skills (large movements like crawling and walking) and fine-motor skills (smaller movements like picking objects up).

What it's like

Children are warmly greeted by staff and settle quickly into nursery life. They feel safe and secure due to carefully structured routines and explore the environment, making their own choices. Children are well-engaged and play cooperatively, showing good manners as staff act as role models.
