Dilwyn Playgroup, established in 1973 and originating as a parent-run initiative, offers a nurturing, play-centred pre-school environment for children aged 2 to 4 years old. The playgroup focuses on fostering confidence and independence through engaging and exploratory play, rather than solely adult-directed activities, aligning with the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.
Located at the rear of Cedar Hall, it boasts a purpose-built area with seamless access to an outdoor free-flow space. Dilwyn Playgroup is an Ofsted-registered and inspected setting, committed to providing a solid foundation for lifelong learning.
They welcome children who are still in nappies or pull-ups and offer a free trial session to help families settle in. Sessions are available Monday to Friday during term-time, with flexible options for half and full days to accommodate varying needs.

Parents appreciate how staff support and engage them, while understanding the demands of everyday family life.
Inclusion & environment
Staff ensure children with special educational needs and/or disabilities make good progress. They make early referrals to specialist services to ensure children receive the timely support they need. They create individual play plans for children, and break down the next steps in their development into more achievable targets. Staff review targets regularly, in partnership with parents and work with other professionals to ensure education, health and care plans are in place for children that need them. The special educational needs coordinator spoke to the inspector about how they support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
Staff plan a routine that maximises the time children can play outside. Children develop their problem-solving skills and practise physical skills through activities like pumping water from a barrel, digging for potatoes, obstacle courses, forest school visits, and exploring local school play equipment. Time and opportunities to learn outdoors in the fresh air promote children's physical and mental health and well-being.
