How they support every child

SEND provision

Where there are gaps in children's learning, staff work proactively in partnership with professionals to get children the help and support they need. Funding is used to good effect and in the best way possible to benefit children's learning. This includes purchasing specific resources and providing one-to-one support for children. The special educational needs coordinator spoke to the inspector about how they support children with special educational needs.

Outdoor space

Children test their abilities and strength as they build dens and balance and climb on equipment outdoors. The inspector observed the quality of education being provided, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact that this was having on children's learning.

I could not recommend Elland Children's Centre enough. Both of my children have attended nursery since the age of 8 months (one is now 2 the other 3) My children come home covered in paint and dirt BUT I would be worried if they both came home clean! I send them in clothes that can get dirty so they can enjoy the fun play, paints, water tray, sand and outside learning area. This gives the children an excuse to explore without worry. Staff always try to ensure that toilet training reflects on what we do at home, faces are wiped clean, hands are washed before lunch and dinner and teeth are brushed. All staff are very caring and share experiences with you at home time. If I have any worries about my children's development all staff take time to listen, encourage development and help to signpost you in the right direction as well are sending referrals if needed. I must stress that not only do staff care for your children but also the parents welfare. There are a number of services that run from the centre and help in all areas from breast feeding to family support. Elland children's centre run a number of family activities that parents can also enjoy. Most recently a farm came to visit for Easter so we all got to visit nursery and enjoy an afternoon feeding the lamas, looking at the ducks and petting the sheep. The centre provided light refreshments upstairs in the family room and some creative arts and play. Its great to experience this with the children and watch them with their peers in their own environment. (the events that are run are free) All staff and managers are committed and dedicated to their roles within the centre. Its very clean, well maintained and this reflects on the children and how happy they are when I pick them up at the end of the day. They always have lovely story's to tell me about what they have experienced, whether it be about the caretaker fixing things, what mischief they have been up to with friends or cuddles they have had when they needed one. Its also lovely be greeted at reception with a smile and sincerity. It sets you up for the day! Its a great place and wouldn't have sent my children anywhere else. :)

Our experience of Elland Children’s Centre has always been enormously positive. The team have always been fully engaged with our children and taken a keen interest in their development. Both our children have a genuine and completely sincere relationship with all of the nusery staff and my observations have given me total confidence that they demonstrate the competency to help constructively shape the early years of our children’s lives. One particular occasion worth mentioning was the dedication shown by all of the nursery team on a morning of very heavy snowfall, when they all went above and beyond to make it in that day so as not to obstruct the children’s routines-both myself and partner were amazed at their absolute commitment to their roles.Yes the children and clothes do occasionally come home a bit dirty but the kids are enjoying themselves and learning - I personally would not have it any other way. Top job all round, thank you well done.

They sent my grandma, who lives in supported living accommodation across the road, an Easter card. She has been disabled and housebound by cancer in the past year so this made her smile. Thank you!

Too much negativity to mention .. sending my son home in a dirty nappy resulting in him being very sore is very upsetting and frustrating. I would not recommend this place at all. This is not the only incident. I don’t understand how so many issues can occur if staff watched them and kept them safe like they were supposed to!!!
