Inclusion & environment
All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, make good progress in their learning from their various starting points. The special educational needs and/or disabilities coordinator provides intervention for any child with gaps in their development. They work with external agencies to gain any extra support children may need. This means that all children are supported to make the progress that they are capable of.
Staff deploy themselves effectively to keep children safe, including during mealtimes and when children are playing outside.
My child attended this nursery from the beginning of September, but we decided to withdraw during the settling-in stage. I initially chose this nursery because it was convenient and close to home. I also looked at their Ofsted rating, which stated “Good,” and thought it would be a safe choice. Unfortunately, my experience has been disappointing. From the start, I felt that many of the staff members were not skilled in communicating with children or making them feel safe and comfortable. At times, it was even awkward to watch how they interacted with the children — it seemed as if they didn’t even know basic nursery songs. Several staff members appear to be untrained, and it shows in the quality of care. There were also issues with their registration process and app. At first, the app wasn’t working due to technical problems, and once it was finally fixed, I was told they don’t really use it anyway. If your goal is for your child to learn communication skills, social development, or potty training, this nursery is definitely not the place for that. The impression I got is that the staff simply watch the children to make sure they are safe — there is little to no engagement or developmental input. The environment itself doesn’t help either. The rooms are dark and uninviting, the toys are old, and many don’t even have working batteries. It feels depressing rather than stimulating for young children. Although they claim to have several branches, I can’t shake the feeling that this is more of a business focused on profit rather than quality childcare. I would strongly advise parents to look beyond the Ofsted score, read the full report, and spend time observing during induction — even then, you will likely notice the awkwardness and lack of professionalism. If you simply need a place for your child to be watched for a few hours a day with no focus on learning or development, then perhaps this would meet your needs. But if you truly care about your child’s growth, confidence, and happiness, I would recommend avoiding this nursery.
Read on GoogleMy son has just completed his second year here and he is now off to “Big school “ and honestly I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. His skills, speech and confidence since he started are amazing. I wouldn’t send my kids anywhere else. The staff have been amazing!! Also Lisa has been amazing with my son. I hope you remain with Fireflies for the future, so all my kids have the same experience. You are an absolute credit to the nursery!! Thankyou for giving my son the best step up!!
