About this day nursery

First Class Kids, a not-for-profit charity, offers childcare and nursery education for children aged 3 months to 11 years, nestled in the picturesque village of Calthwaite, Cumbria. Housed in a charming old post office building, the nursery prides itself on fostering a calm, caring, and homely environment where every child's unique story and individual needs are met.

The curriculum is built around respect for the child, resources, environment, and each other, with a focus on building strong relationships to understand each child's learning style. The dedicated team provides stimulating, exciting activities and meticulously designed environments that encourage imagination, curiosity, and exploration.

The nursery caters to different age groups across various rooms: "Cosy Cubs" for babies, "Busy Bees" for toddlers aged 18 months to approximately 2 years 3 months, "Curious Caterpillars" for 2-year-olds fostering independence, and "Blossoming Butterflies" for 3-5 year olds in a renovated barn. This barn also hosts wrap-around care, including breakfast, after-school, and holiday clubs for children up to 11 years, offering a variety of extra-curricular activities.

Our ethos

Here at First Class Kids, we believe all children have their own individual, unique story. We have shaped our curriculum around this ethos. What it's like

Children are happy at this nursery and confidently leave their parents to start their day. Children benefit from the rural location and learn about local life, developing a sense of belonging in their community. They also learn to appreciate their natural environment.
