First Little Steps Day Nursery opened in Mitcham in 2021 and offers childcare for children aged 0-4 years. Open all year round from 8am to 6pm, the nursery (rated Good by Ofsted on 7th June 2023) is a warm and welcoming environment where staff greet children and parents warmly.

Children are eager to play and form secure attachments with staff, who treat them with kindness and respect. The nursery provides effective support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), working closely with parents and other agencies to ensure every child makes progress.

The curriculum is well-organised and ambitious, building on children's existing knowledge and skills. There is a strong emphasis on developing speech and language, with targeted small group sessions, story time, and the use of signing and visual communication.

Children have daily access to a well-equipped outdoor garden area where they can develop physical skills by climbing, balancing, and using wheeled toys. Educational experiences are varied and interesting, from hatching eggs and caring for chicks to growing cress, visiting the local fire station, and interacting with farm animals.

The nursery also promotes good oral health through themed activities and offers a nutritious menu, encouraging independence in older children during snack times.
