About this day nursery

Georges Playgroup, a charity-based establishment located within the grounds of Harewood Infant School in Gloucester, offers toddler and preschool sessions for children aged 2 up until their transition to primary school. Established in 1997, the playgroup provides a self-contained unit with both indoor and outdoor learning spaces.

They focus on fostering individual learning and development through a blend of child-led and adult-led activities, encouraging exploration and supporting children’s growth at their own pace. The curriculum adheres to the Early Years Foundation Stage 2020, supported by Birth to 5 Matters 2021, and emphasises a rich learning environment provided by passionate and well-trained educators.

The playgroup aims to enhance children's skills and knowledge by promoting independence, creativity, and a comprehensive understanding of the world around them, ensuring each child can reach their full potential.

Our ethos

At Georges Playgroup, we encourage learning through play and exploration. We work alongside Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to support and encourage growth in all areas of development. Our aim is to support individual learning and development by providing children with the opportunity to expand their skills and knowledge, by exploring and understanding the world around them. We believe that children grow and develop when they have access to well thought out learning environment, with the support of well trained and passionate, educators. Children learn best when they are happy and engaged; by offering both child and adult led opportunities, indoors and out, children develop their skills and knowledge. Our focus is based solely on the children in our setting, supporting them in their early development, to ensure they make the most of every opportunity and fulfil their growing potential, along with promoting and encouraging their independence and creativity.

Children are developing very well in their independence skills, such as organising snack times and self-care, which positively impacts their sense of belonging, happiness, and well-being. Staff model language and promote physical skills through various activities, helping children develop their communication, fine motor skills, and large body muscles.

How they support every child

Outdoor space

Children feel confident and safe to develop their large body muscles when climbing on large play equipment. Children also experience physical movement during activities such as dance and yoga.

My little girl started later than majority and her confidence has grown so much. She cannot wait to go into playgroup that she practically drags me down the road! Great little place to get your child ready for big school. Great staff, always so happy! 100% would recommend
