Growing Up Green is a nursery in Brighton catering to children from three months to five years old across two locations, GUG 1 and GUG 2. The day nursery prioritises an open and fair admissions process and strives to accommodate diverse community members by making information accessible in various languages and formats.
They consider factors like proximity to the day nursery, sustainable transport methods, and existing siblings when allocating places. The nursery is committed to inclusivity, valuing every child regardless of gender, background, or ability, and they adapt their practices to ensure all children, including those with disabilities, can fully participate.
Parents are actively involved in the nursery's operations, and the facility adheres to legal space requirements and staff-to-child ratios set by the Early Years Foundation Stage. They also offer full-time places preferential treatment depending on availability and work commitments.
Before attendance, parents must complete registration and contract forms detailing the child's personal information, dietary needs, and emergency contacts. The nursery offers early learning sessions through government funding for eligible children, with two free funded places available on a first-come, first-served basis, bookable a term in advance.
Funded sessions align with government-specified flexible arrangements, and the nursery endeavours to accommodate parental needs regarding these sessions.
What it's like
Children eagerly arrive and receive a warm welcome from the staff in this vibrant and well-organised nursery. They are happy and settle quickly, keen to engage with a range of exciting play opportunities. Staff work hard to get to know the children well in order to establish what they need to teach and provide a broad and balanced curriculum.
Fees are charged for full days, half days, and additional early sessions. Invoices are billed monthly and calculated over 51 weeks of the year to account for bank holidays and Christmas closures. Daily rates are inclusive of all meals, snacks, nappies, and extra-curricular activities.

Inclusion & environment
The new special educational needs coordinator (SENCo) works closely with a manager to have oversight of children. Plans are in place to support children who may have delays in their development, and the SENCo works with staff to ensure that children receive support to help them to catch up. Referrals are being made to external professionals to ensure children receive intervention at the earliest opportunity.
