Inspector highlights

  • The leadership team has implemented an effective action plan since the last inspection, identifying areas for improvement and strengthening. The nursery has expanded, and leaders have ensured robust and effective safe recruitment.
  • Leaders have ensured there is a robust induction and supervision system in place for all staff. The training programme has been strengthened, with staff currently training in forest school, leading to children thriving and engaging in planting activities, learning new vocabulary.
  • Staff are effective in supporting children's communication and language development, including those who speak English as an additional language. Staff approach parents for key words in their home language, and children listen to stories and sing nursery rhymes.
  • Staff provide lots of opportunities to build children's physical skills, supporting babies' early walking, children using large equipment in the garden, and older children using scissors to build resilience and confidence.
  • Staff are effective in teaching children what makes their bodies healthy, with opportunities to explore outdoors in the fresh air, plant vegetables, recall dental nurse visits, and learn about healthy foods through freshly prepared meals and snacks.

Areas to develop

  • 1review and improve busy care routines throughout the day, especially for the youngest children who are settling into the nursery
  • 2develop the curriculum further to support all children, including those who may be less confident.

I’m really grateful to Happy Woods nursery for taking my daughter in following the sudden closure of Cedar Park nursery in May. They made her feel welcome from the outset and treated her as if she had been going there for years. She loves the staff, who have taken a real interest in her development, and has quickly made new friends. She’s quite a confident individual anyway but it was a big change for her to deal with, so being in a positive environment like Happy Woods has really helped her. They organised a beautiful graduation ceremony which she took part in. Thank you very much Happy Woods 😊

My son has been attending Happywood’s nursery since January 2024. He confidence has grown so much and loves attending the nursery. The staff are amazing with him, very patient and caring my son always talks about his teachers :). As a first time mum I was very anxious about sending my son to nursery and I have never left him with anyone, but Happywood’s have been amazing settling him in and being very on top with communicating about my sons needs and his day to day activities! My son always comes out of nursery smiling and happy!. I would definitely recommend Happywood’s nursery.

Home from home is the only way to describe how we as a family feel. Our daughter attends this nursery and I can not thank the staff and manager enough for what they do. The setting is full of all kinds of resources for both inside and outdoor play, allowing children to develop. The recently new building is amazing and helps with their development as they go from room to room. We are updated all day long regarding our daughter's progress via their online app. The activities the children do are very stimulating and teach children so much. Thank you once again Happywoods.
