About this day nursery

Highwood Day Nursery, established in 2012, operates all year round from 7 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday, except for one week at Christmas and bank holidays, catering to children aged 0-7 years. This nurturing and inclusive setting, rated Outstanding by Ofsted on October 11, 2022, ensures all children thrive, developing secure attachments with staff and displaying high levels of confidence and self-esteem.

Children are highly motivated to learn through meaningful play, with babies exploring textures and older children engaging in energetic singing and music to develop early literacy skills. The nursery promotes healthy lifestyles through daily physical activity in their extremely well-resourced garden, where children develop large-muscle skills and learn about balanced diets and oral hygiene.

Exceptional support is provided for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), with staff skilfully adapting routines and activities to ensure full inclusion. The nursery also offers unique outdoor learning experiences in its forest school area, where children solve problems and think critically while building shelters.

Children also have enjoyable opportunities to learn about the natural world by growing herbs and vegetables and understanding the changing seasons. Staff expertly support communication and language development, weaving in learning opportunities based on children's interests, such as exploring simple sums with construction materials.

Cosy reading areas encourage a love for books, with staff bringing stories to life through intonation, expression, and props. The nursery also fosters a sense of responsibility and critical thinking, helping children learn to assess risk and work together.

How they support every child

SEND provision

The manager and staff offer exceptional support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Staff skilfully adapt routines and activities to ensure that children with SEND are fully included.

Outdoor space

All children have daily opportunities to play and exercise in the extremely well-resourced garden. They develop their large-muscle skills as they climb and run with their friends. Children have lots of fun in the forest school area as they work together to carefully carry large planks of wood and sticks, enthusiastically testing out their ideas, solving problems and thinking critically as they build a shelter.

My daughter goes here and I would recommend anyone looking for a nursery for their child. We receive regular reports and photos daily. My daughter is often talking about her friends and key workers. Very supportive when it’s come to reducing nap time and with potty training.

Our little boy has enjoyed every moment of his time at Highwood. The staff are all really friendly as are the children. Evryday is full of activities and learning. Highly recommend to any parents searching for a nursery.
