About this day nursery

Jelly Beans Montessori is a group of three award-winning nursery and preschool settings located in Hockley, Essex, established in 2004 by Sarah Drummond. The nurseries are rooted in the authentic Montessori philosophy, focusing on child-led learning, prepared environments, and highly trained educators.

Each of the three settings—Jelly Beans Nursery, Open Air Day Nursery, and Jelly Beans Day Nursery at Plumberow—offers a unique character while upholding the core Montessori values of respect, independence, and the joy of learning. The nursery provides outstanding early years education, with all settings rated OFSTED Good.

The Nursery and Open Air settings operate for 50 weeks a year, offering flexibility for working families. The Montessori approach is integrated through practical life activities, sensorial exploration, language development, mathematics, and cultural studies, aiming to build concentration, coordination, independence, and a broad understanding of the world.

The team is dedicated to providing a warm and nurturing environment for children.

SEND provision

There are good links with local authority advisers, health visitors and other professionals who help to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. This enables staff to seek support and guidance to tailor educational and care plans to meet children's individual needs.

Outdoor space

Toddlers take part in a wide range of activities inside and out in the garden. For example, they use child-sized spades to dig in the mud area and use small containers to create castles in the sandpit.
