We were excited to join Chris Abell Nursery due to its Outstanding Ofsted rating, but we have experienced serious safeguarding concerns that management has not addressed. Our daughter joined the baby room at 8 months and is now 11 months. Since joining, she has repeatedly experienced rough behaviour from an older, stronger child who remains in the baby room, reportedly due to staffing issues. As a result, she has frequent bumps from being pushed or poked. We have raised this with management several times, but despite repeated reassurances, nothing has changed and the risk continues. The room staff are caring and our daughter is happy with them, but her experience is overshadowed by the ongoing safety concerns caused by inappropriate age-mixing. We have now submitted a formal complaint and are contacting Ofsted while awaiting a response from the nursery.

Very beautiful nursery and has amazing staff that go above and beyond for each child in their care. Some pictures of activities that your child may experience when in nursery and there is plenty more aswell! We are such a good team and work so well to provide learning opportunities for children and also support parent partnership well within are nursery!

Our child attended this nursery from Jan. 2023 - Oct.2023 starting at the age of 14 months. She has absolutely thrived thanks to the incredible work of the caregivers. Her speech, confidence, and coordination has improved and she clearly loved being there. At home she talks of her caregivers frequently. I cannot speak of these caregivers highly enough - they go above and beyond every single day. They work extremely long hours and seem to do a lot more than just take care of the children as they also clean the room and do paperwork, yet they still bring the positive energy and love to the children. Our daughter also had a consistent and small care team so she was able to bond very well. We thought Ellie, Emma, Mary, Carmen, and Kiran were particularly outstanding but everyone there has been great. It's a wonderful place. I was nervous about leaving my baby at nursery for the first time, nervous about the mixed reviews on here, and nervous about the Ofsted reports, but overall I am happy with the nursery. The first Ofsted report mentioned hygiene, but I have seen other nurseries and this one is always very clean. I have no concerns at all there. The main issue at this nursery is the unusually frequently changing management, which in turn can affect communication with parents and the atmosphere. We got our place through the Uni of Cambridge, like most families there, and I cannot believe the university has not done more to address this problem. It creates even more burden on the caregiver staff, which is really unfair on them. Be wary of people "moving to a nursery closer to home" - while this can of course be a legitimate excuse, I suspect it's also abused as a convenient statement to appease parents. As a working parent, the nursery hours are convenient and the nursery is structured around families' needs, so you can drop them off and pick them up when suits you. Hot nutritious meals are provided, which has made life a LOT easier. Our daughter has very severe allergies that they were able to cater for (chef Mark has been great). I hope new management continues to take allergies extremely seriously. The rooms are airy, spacious and full of natural light and wood materials. The outdoor area is engaging for the children and they spend a lot of time outdoors, which is important to us. I highly recommend this nursery and thank everyone there for working so hard to create a positive place for my child to thrive, learn and feel loved.

This review is based on my background as a developmental psychologist and my observations as a father for twin boys who attend the nursery. My boys (now 13 months old) have been attending the nursery for just under two months, and they have settled in really well. The building is purpose built, with plenty of age appropriate toys that encourage fine and gross motor skills and language development. The staff are always pleased to see us in the morning, and give me full updates about how the day has gone. We also receive updates through the phone app, which often has pictures of what the boys are playing with and why. Even at this early age, I trust my boys' opinion on whether the environment they are in is to their benefit, and the smiles I get from them at the end of the day assures me they are in a nurturing and supportive place.

Kids Planet Chris Abell is under new management who have a real dedication to ensure staff wellbeing is at the forefront of supervisions. The children are exposed to a range of exciting activities that the very experienced team have set up following on from interests of the children. The chef ensures all allergies and preferences are catered to.
