Lynwood Day Nursery, established in 1991, provides childcare for children aged 1 to 4 years. Open all year round, Monday to Friday, from 7:45am to 5:30pm, the nursery offers a warm and nurturing environment where enthusiastic and experienced staff help children develop a strong sense of belonging.

The nursery has an overall "Good" rating from its latest Ofsted inspection on 11th October 2024. Staff have high expectations and deliver an ambitious curriculum with a wide range of learning opportunities.

Children benefit from educational visits and workshops, such as those at the local theatre, to learn about local heritage and the wider world. The setting places a strong emphasis on independence and confidence, encouraging children to partake in self-care activities and prepare for outdoor play by putting on their own outdoor suits and wellington boots.

The curriculum also focuses on personal well-being, with children learning about healthy eating and the importance of regular exercise, including trips to the local fruit and vegetable shop. The nursery effectively supports children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), working closely with parents and professionals to offer tailored support.

Staff have received specific training, such as Makaton sign language, to enhance their ability to support children's early communication skills. Pre-school children are well-prepared for their transition to school through visits to their new schools and information sharing with teachers.

Children also gain an understanding of the diverse world, learning about different festivals and celebrations.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Staff support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) well. They work together with parents and other professionals to tailor support and learning to provide the best outcomes for children with SEND. Staff have also undertaken specific training courses, such as Makaton sign language, to help them support children's early communication skills.

Outdoor space

Children are provided with ample opportunity to develop their independence and confidence, such as putting on their outdoor suits and wellington boots as they prepare for outdoor play. The inspector observed the quality of education during activities, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.
