MAGIK Out of School Club in Darlington, established in 2007, is a happy and welcoming setting for children aged 3 to 11 years. Operating all year round, except for one week at Christmas and bank holidays, the club offers flexible hours to support families.

During term time, morning sessions run from 8:50 am to 11:45 am, with afternoon sessions from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm. A lunchtime session is available from 11:45 am to 12:30 pm.

For early risers, a breakfast club operates from 7:30 am to 8:55 am, and an after-school club from 3:20 pm to 6 pm. During school holidays, the club is open from 8 am to 6 pm.

What it's like to attend

MAGIK is a happy, welcoming setting. Children enter with smiles ready to start their day, and staff quickly get to know their interests, likes and dislikes. As a result, children show great enthusiasm in all activities, settle quickly, and sustain their concentration for lengthy periods.

Inspector highlights

  • Staff fully understand the impact that the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has had on children. They have prioritised helping children settle, build confidence and to re-establish friendship groups.
  • The manager and staff work together to tailor the curriculum to meet the needs and interests of children at different stages of their development.
  • Staff promote children's communication skills well. They encourage them to speak through various discussions and conversations.
  • Staff use questions carefully and successfully to prompt children to think, talk and solve problems.
  • Staff develop strong partnerships with parents. They gain information from parents about their child's interests and ensure the resources and activities reflect these.

How they support every child

Outdoor space

Staff use the outdoor area well to promote children's physical development. Children splash in rain puddles, scoop water into containers, and transport it around the garden, stomping their feet on the soil and explaining that birds do this to bring worms to the surface.
