Maldon Community Pre-school, established in 1972 by a group of local mothers, offers a nurturing and stimulating environment for children. The preschool operates as a non-profit charity, committed to providing an open and inclusive space where children learn through play.

They boast spacious, well-heated premises in the heart of Maldon and a large, secure outdoor area for exploration and child-led activities. The preschool emphasises creating independent, confident, and resilient learners, understanding the crucial link between physical play and mental well-being.

Each child is assigned a key person to support their developmental journey. The team at Maldon Community Pre-school prioritises building strong relationships with both children and families, working collaboratively to understand individual needs for effective planning and ensuring appropriate progress.

They welcome visitors and are expanding their services with a new "Cub room" from September 2025, catering to children aged 9 months to 2 years.

Our ethos

Since then the pre-school has grown and developed but our philosophy of providing an open and inclusive environment for children to learn through play remains fundamentally the same. We endeavour to provide a learning environment and experiences that create independent learners who are confident in their abilities; understand their worth; and develop resilience to support their future life. We understand the link between physical play and mental health and wellbeing, to this end our children have free flow access to our large outdoor garden with a variety of planned and child led activities.

The quality of teaching is outstanding, with a meticulously designed curriculum that builds on children's interests and prior knowledge to challenge them to the highest level. Children flourish and make exceptional progress, readily engaging in activities and showing immense curiosity.

Pricing & funding

Charges are structured around morning, afternoon, and full day sessions, with separate rates for the main preschool and the Cubs group. Fees are billed in advance on a termly or half-termly basis, and a voluntary daily contribution is requested to help support snack and resource costs.
