About this day nursery

Monkton Nursery, founded in 1980 by Dr. Sue Poole, was Liverpool's first nursery to combine day care with education. Over four decades later, it remains a family-run establishment, with Sue's daughters, Eve and Lydia, now serving as Directors and Managers.

In 2023, Monkton expanded to include a neighbouring facility, now known as Monkton East, which mirrors the original Monkton West in its high-quality care, staffing, and activities. The nursery is housed in a late Victorian building from 1881, thoughtfully adapted for childcare.

" Located conveniently near Queens Drive and Mossley Hill Station, the nursery offers ample parking. The ground floor caters to children aged one to three years, while the first floor is dedicated to three-to-five-year-olds in the Early Years Foundation stage.

Monkton is a member of the National Day Nurseries Association and has consistently received positive Ofsted reports, praised for its strong sense of belonging among children, exceptional partnerships with parents, and inspirational leadership. The nursery aims to provide a stable, loving, and stimulating environment that fosters a lifelong love of learning, adhering to a child-centred approach that balances progressive and traditional teaching methods.

What it's like

Children at the nursery gain much new knowledge from the interesting and well-organised curriculum. Leaders think carefully about what different children need to learn and make sure that every child has a chance to succeed. Children feel happy because staff help them to feel valued, giving them time and attention.
