About this day nursery

One Nine Seven Park Nursery, located in Kingston Upon Thames, was established in May 1993, originally named after its address at 197 Richmond Road. Despite relocating to larger premises in February 2001, the nursery retained its well-known name.

Now operating from two locations on Park Road, the nursery offers a caring, safe, secure, and stimulating environment for children. The Park Nursery provides early education for children aged 9 months, two, three and four years old, accepting various government funding schemes.

The nursery operates 50 weeks a year, closing for two weeks during Christmas and on bank holidays. The aim is to foster each child's full potential, encouraging positive self-image and preparing them for a smooth transition to school.

They focus on partnership with parents, promoting inclusive practices and cultural diversity through play and resources, ensuring children feel secure, happy, and supported as individuals.

Charges are based on additional paid hours booked on top of funded hours, with fully funded and stretched entitlement options available. Meals are included for children on stretched funding, while those on standard funded terms can pay a voluntary contribution or bring a packed lunch.

How they support every child

SEND provision

All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), make good progress. Children with SEND have tailored support to help them make progress. Managers and staff work closely with parents and other professionals. The manager effectively uses additional funding, such as early years pupil premium, to support children, for example, by purchasing resources to support children's communication and language skills.

Outdoor space

Children enjoy the outdoor space where they play cooperatively with their peers. Although the nursery has a small outdoor area, staff make good use of local libraries, parks and walks in the town. Older children enjoy forest school sessions in the nearby Richmond Park, where they learn about nature and take managed risks.

We love this nursery. Our two boys have been going here since October 2023 and they enjoy it very much. The staff turnover is minimal and the teachers are lovely, professional and kind. The bigger nursery chain they went to before was much more expensive, the teachers changed constantly and our older one was reluctant to go in. We have none of those issues here and are very happy with our nursery choice. The nursery manager Claire is also very nice to deal with. There are two 197 nurseries close to each other and our boys go to the bigger one across from Alexandra school. As an example of the level of care, there was major train disruptions recently and we couldn’t get home to pick the boys up on time. The teachers stayed with them until almost 8pm and didn’t even complain when we finally got there. The have very reliable and attentive staff here.

Terrible nursery. They punish kids with timeouts sitting on a carpet for things like running (even if it was outside in their playground). My son hated it here. Even months later he was complaining he did jot want to go in if we passed nearby it. I also have seen stuff complaining about children behaviour right after dismissing them with their parents on the door. I took my child out after a few months, would not recommend it to anyone.
