Pillar Box Montessori Nurseries, established in 1995 by Director Lorraine Redknapp, offers a nurturing 'home from home' environment for children. The nursery operates across two sites: Pillar Box Gardens for babies and toddlers from birth to 18 months, and Pillar Box Montessori Nursery for children aged 18 months and older, located just a five-minute walk away.
Both facilities are conveniently situated near Bow Road underground station, Bow Church DLR, and local bus routes. The nursery prides itself on its Montessori approach to teaching and learning, fostering physical and mental development through interactive and stimulating activities.
The dedicated staff ensure a strong sense of security, encouraging confident and happy children through cuddles, chats, smiles, and songs. Children engage in diverse activities including treasure baskets, books, colorful toys, textures, sounds, and messy play.
The nursery has received recognition for its strong leadership and warm relationships with children, as acknowledged by the Tower Hamlets Healthy Early Years Accreditation. The calendar runs for 49 weeks of the year.

My daughter absolutely loved her time at Pillar Box, and I'm so grateful to Ana, Sobia, Ms Midie, Ms Anisa and the whole team for the care and love they showed her. It was wonderful to see her growing in confidence, developing and learning so much, and we were secure in the knowledge she was exceedingly well looked after. The staff are knowledgeable and kind, and it's easy to see how much they care about all the children there. Children are encouraged to explore the world, to be curious, to try new things while developing social skills. They have the chance to participate in a fantastic range of extra curricular activities including yoga, ballet and swimming, and there were some exciting extras such as music sessions run by professional musicians. My daughter left having just turned 4 to start primary school and had a solid grounding in phonics, addition and subtraction, and writing, and perhaps most importantly confidence in herself and real empathy for others. She had a wonderful bond with staff and still talks about them often. If you're looking for a nursery in the area, I highly recommend Pillar Box. We can't thank Ana and the team enough, and wish we still lived locally so our son could attend too.
Read on GoogleMy sons were very happy at the nursery for the past two years. The staff engaged well with children and tried to make them achieve more. Extracurricular activities are fun including yoga, Spanish, swimming and ballet. I could see how much fun and knowledge they got from the nursery through daily picture updates and how my son’s becoming so better mannered. The catering menu was nutritious and had a variety of food options. Sad that we were leaving the nursery and sons still mentioned how Ms Mindy or Anisa in the blue room taught them things and that how much they missed the nursery. In addition, especially thanks to Ana and Sobia who always listened to parents very carefully and worked diligently on my kids’ development.
Read on GoogleBoth my children attended this nursery from 2021-2025. They both loved it there. The nursery manager Ana is great and the kids do a load of extra curricular activities, even swimming! I don’t think any other nurseries are doing this. Highly recommended!
Read on GoogleOur daughter has attended this nursery for the past year and has truly thrived, after having had a sudden change in nursery due to the previous one closing down. Ana and Sobia manage this nursery wonderfully and they are amazing at their job. They truly work with families to support the wellbeing of children in their care, listening to feedback and providing appropriate childcare advice when asked. They are considerate and caring, ensuring their staff reflect their values. The structure itself could do with improvements as it is old and worn out, and the location on a busy polluted road isn't ideal, but they can only work with what they have. They keep it as clean as they can and the garden playground was recently refurbished and is a real highlight. Children spend a lot of time outdoors and get involved in all sorts of creative projects with a huge variety of activities including reading and daily Montessori activities. Payments are due by the first day of the month so paymentsneed to go in at the end of the previous month. I once made an error and had not paid on time when I thought I had, accepted the late fee penalty of £30 and all was fine. We will be sad to be leaving.
Read on GoogleThank you Pillar Box Nursery! Our daughter had a great time in your care. We appreciated everything you did for us. The nursery was very supportive as our daughter grew and moved between different age groups. They were always contactable if you need to get in touch. We felt so lucky to have Ms Midie and Ms Anisa in our daughter’s room. They made learning fun. Ms Anisa is so creative and Ms Midie is great at keeping the class engaged. And Ana was the glue holding everything together. She is a great leader and fantastic with children. The children had plenty of valuable outside time and fun outings, which is especially important when living in London.
