About this day nursery

Churwell CIC is a not-for-profit social enterprise, established in 2012 as a community interest company, dedicated to helping individuals and communities achieve their full potential. They aim to achieve this by offering various opportunities for children, young people, adults, and families to develop their skills and gain valuable experience.

The organisation collaborates with voluntary, private, and public sector entities to deliver high-quality services tailored to community needs. Located in Morley, south of Leeds, Churwell CIC is ideally situated to serve communities across West Yorkshire, including Leeds, Kirklees, Wakefield, and Bradford.

Their services include PLAY@Churwell Day Nursery, providing early education and childcare for children aged 0-5 years, and PLAY@Churwell Forest School, which offers outdoor activities for children aged 5-11 during school holidays. Additionally, they provide an apprenticeship programme and work experience placements through Churwell CIC Training and offer mentoring and support to local early education providers via Churwell CIC Business.

While mobile creches were previously offered, this service is currently on hold to allow for the development of their nursery and forest school.

Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

SEND provision

All children flourish, including those in receipt of additional funding or who have additional needs. Staff implement highly effective early intervention strategies that support children with delayed development to catch up. They also build excellent working partnerships with other professionals.

Outdoor space

The inspector observed the quality of education indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact of this on children's learning. The inspector accompanied staff and children from the pre-school room on an autumn walk, where she carried out a joint observation of the activity with the manager. Older children studiously carry clipboards, holding a list of the nature items to find during their autumn treasure hunt.
