The Round Chapel Families Project Nursery, located in Hackney, East London, serves as a vital part of the broader Round Chapel community centre. This nursery was established in 2000, evolving from earlier community development work that included parent and toddler groups and early years training programmes.

It operates within the Old School Rooms, distinct from the Round Chapel arts centre, which occupies the main auditorium of the historic building. The project is rooted in the strong nonconformist traditions of Hackney, adapting to modern community needs while addressing significant local challenges such as poverty and inequality.

The nursery is open 48 weeks a year, offering both morning and all-day sessions to accommodate families. It plays a crucial role in providing a safe and supportive environment for children and families, reflecting the church's commitment to community welfare and engagement.

The Round Chapel as a whole is a United Reformed Church that strives to be inclusive, welcoming individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, and aims to foster a sense of community through various projects and services.

Our ethos

We are a people centred Church who sees faith as a journey. We are for the wanderers, the wonderers, the risk takers, the question askers, the makers, the dreamers, the agitators, the believers and the doubters. We open our building to serve the local community, offering a place of worship, a safe space for children and families to play and be supported, a place for the homeless and those living in vulnerable housing situations to receive help and practical advice, a space for people to work, to be creative and to engage with local people tackling some of the issues that the community face.

What it's like

Staff value children highly and provide activities that children thoroughly enjoy, making good use of information on children's interests. With high expectations, staff manage children's behaviour successfully, leading to good behaviour. The curriculum is interesting and varied, ensuring all children make good progress and gain good skills from well-planned activities.

Pricing & funding

Fees are structured around morning sessions ending at 1:30pm and full-day sessions. The nursery supports families accessing early years childcare grants and tax credits.
