Scallywags Nursery & Pre-School Limited, located in Nether Edge, Sheffield, has been providing childcare on non-domestic premises since its registration in 2003. With a "Good" rating from its latest Ofsted inspection on 14th October 2022, the nursery caters to children from birth to four years old, with approximately 159 children currently on roll and a capacity for 101.
The dedicated team of 35 childcare staff, 28 of whom hold qualifications at Level 3 to 6, ensures a supportive and stimulating environment. The nursery prides itself on its clear curriculum that helps children develop a wide range of skills.
For example, babies learn handwashing at portable sink units before progressing to more independent self-care. The setting fosters independence, as seen with children scraping their own plates and putting on their coats.
They also support children with English as an additional language and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) through collaborations with external professionals and tailored strategies, ensuring all children thrive. Parents are kept informed through an online app and activity bags, fostering a strong home-nursery connection.
This commitment to continuous improvement, evidenced by their active seeking of advice from local authority advisors, contributes to the nursery's good standards.

Inclusion & environment
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are well supported by staff and external professionals. The special educational needs coordinators receive training to enhance their practice, sharing this knowledge across the nursery to ensure consistent support.
Children who speak English as an additional language are supported to learn new words, with staff using objects and repeating phrases to promote understanding. However, key words in some children's home languages have not been obtained to effectively use in their play.
Lovely nursery. After dropping off my grandchildren the friendly staff could not do more to help them feel settled, which in turn made me feel confident that they were in the best care. A bright and beautiful setting, especially the baby unit, and the practitioners in that area displayed kindnesses and were very professional. A young girl, whose name I believe was Olivia, gave a most pleasant handover when I went to collect my grandchildren, and I will be highly recommending this nursery to friends and family.
Read on GoogleI would highly recommend Scallywags Nursery. The staff are always very accommodating and professional, inside and outside of the nursery setting. The young lady( Olivia), is very approachable, highly skilled in all elements of childcare, and the children just love her kind demeanour. She is always readily available, even after the official closing time, to advise and support not just the team, but parents also.
Read on GoogleScallywags is an excellent nursery. The staff seem to really care about the children and the children are happy to go. My little one has had a great time there. The staff are very professional and thoughtful, and the setting is well kept up. They do an endless series of craft activities and (in normal times) a varied programme of yoga and music. I've been very impressed and pleased that they are just around the corner.
Read on GoogleMy daughter has attended this nursery for 2 years now and she loves it! The nursery staff are very welcoming, helpful and supportive. My daughter has made lovely bonds with all staff she has encountered and is always excited for her nursery day.
Read on GoogleReally nice nursery staff shame about the management! The nursery itself is fairly clean, and there is some really nice staff, however I removed my child from this nursery due to rude management, I was told to avoid this nursery by colleagues because of this, however when I visited they seemed really friendly, however once my child was enrolled it was very different. The Deputy manager VICKY was rude and her attitude was disgusting ( I was warned about this). Please avoid at all costs. Do NOT send your child here! Who wants to pay to put their child in a nursery with rue staff!!
