How they support every child

SEND provision

All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), are supported to make good progress. Staff use what they know about children to plan a range of experiences that help them to prepare for their next stage in learning. Swift action is taken when any gaps are identified. Children are supported to become resilient and to manage conflict. The passionate, knowledgeable special educational needs coordinator, who has completed her level 3 SEND training, ensures that any additional needs are identified quickly. She works in partnership with parents and other agencies to put targeted support in place to help close gaps in children's learning.

Outdoor space

Children have vast opportunities to play outdoors. Staff support and encourage children to take risks and to develop their physical skills as they balance and climb over crates and wooden bridges. However, some staff working with the younger toddlers do not consistently implement the curriculum, particularly when they take the children outdoors, to provide every child with the very best learning opportunities to maximise the progress they make.

My son started in baby room last May before he was one year old. We had a few days of him crying and getting upset when we dropped him off, although we had had a number of settling in sessions but apart from that he was fine. I must say, staff in the baby room and the nursery managers did communicate well- settling in or crying or anything else relating to illnesses or infections… communication is very well throughout. Now, we started off with him crying at hand over times in the morning, but that stopped sometime later. However now, I am having to factor in extra time to pick him up as he doesn’t want to leave! He has made friends and he has his favorites from the staff members, but he’s enjoying nursery so much it’s hard to take him out! If the staff and managers (who go into the rooms and support daily) didn’t do an amazing job he wouldn’t now be crying at home time. He runs to the rooms and keeps tapping at the windows to go back in and it’s a struggle ti get out. But I much prefer that to cries at handover. I am glad and very happy that my toddler has grown to fully enjoy and love his nursery, a genuine thank you to everyone there as there’s nothing worse than going into work not knowing if your baby is truly happy, but my sons happiness, giggles and laughter with the staff really is great. I feel safe and happy leaving him with you all. Thank you for all your hard work 😊

Worst nursery ever!! After being here for under a month, I decided to take my son out of this nursery because of a number of reasons. Which I did address all my concerns to the manager but she didn't get back to my concerns which speaks volumes. A few red flags which made me decide to take my son from this nursery one is because he was always distressed apart from one day, even today when I came to collect my son, the manager as well as another staff said he had a great day, but when I had come to collect he was very distressed with a runny nose and tears just flowing. The sleeve on his arm was soaking wet, I thought why was he not changed when he did have spare clothes at the nursery. Another time I had picked him up he was soiled and I wondered, how long was he in the soiled nappy for? I did express my concerns as I said to the manager but she didn't get back to me. So after today, I decided I would not send my son back to this nursery, sad thing is I was recommended this nursery, but I personally would not recommend this nursery, but each to their own as they say. There was one staff member who I thought was nice and I think her name was Chloe, apologies if I have got the name wrong, but she would always give me a little run down of his day, as they don't seem to update this information on the EYparent app, think it's pointless having the app to be honest. So yea, a 1 star review from me. I could go on and list everything that I was unhappy with but I'd be here all evening and thought I'd just mention a couple of my concerns regarding this nursery.

My Daughter has been attending Shooting Stars since September. She is absolutely thriving in the environment. Everyday it seems like she has learnt/experienced something new. Her communication and development really is a reflection of the staff.

My son goes to Shooting Stars in Kings Norton and I have been impressed since day 1! He recently transitioned from baby to pre-toddlers and the transition was extremely well supported. He LOVES it here. Thank you to every single member of staff.

My children have settled extremely well. Tracey the deputy manager has made sure my experience has been streamlined from start to current. From my show around to settles everything has been no trouble to her. The staff show genuine interest and concern for the children. Could not ask for more so glad I chose this nursery.
