Shotton Children's Centre, located in Shotton Colliery, operates as part of Shotton Primary School. The centre welcomes new parents and encourages them to visit, offering the opportunity to meet Mrs. Henson, the SENCO, for discussions regarding children with specific needs.
Admissions are coordinated through the Local Authority in Durham, which aims to meet parental preferences, though physical space limitations can occur. The school has an admission limit of 60 children per year group.
The centre is committed to accommodating pupils with disabilities in line with the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, ensuring that all pupils are treated fairly and included in classroom and extracurricular activities. They actively adapt their resources and environment to support the learning and participation of all children, including those with Special Educational Needs.

Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities make very good progress. Staff swiftly identify where children need further support. They work exceptionally well with a range of professionals, such as health visitors and speech and language therapists.
Children concentrate well outside. They are highly motivated as they use pipettes to water plants or play in the building area.
