Somercotes Stars Pre-School in Louth, Lincolnshire, offers a nurturing environment where children are encouraged to develop a strong understanding of themselves and others. Registered in 2012, this childcare setting, operating on non-domestic premises at North Somercotes C of E School, prides itself on fostering personal, social, and emotional growth.
The dedicated team, comprising five childcare staff with three holding Level 2 or above qualifications, helps children navigate their emotions and promotes a culture of respect. Children learn affirmations like "I am important, I am brave" and engage in activities that build their knowledge of the world around them, often with great enthusiasm in the diverse outdoor learning environment.
The setting is open Monday to Friday, term-time only, from 8 am to 6 pm, providing funded early education for two-, three-, and four-year-old children. The pre-school has shown significant improvement, achieving a "Good" rating in its latest inspection, a testament to the manager's efforts in strengthening governance and enhancing support for children's communication and language development.
Children are motivated by a "Rainbow Rules" system that encourages positive social behaviours and independence, such as preparing their own breakfast.

Inclusion & environment
Staff successfully tailor the curriculum for children with emerging special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). They complete training courses to develop their teaching practices. Because of this, all children are making progress. The manager makes some referrals for support from external agencies when this is needed.
Staff have created an outdoor environment that is diverse in learning opportunities. Some children check on the seeds they have recently planted and are excited to see that some are sprouting. Others confidently manoeuvre their bodies as they climb a tree, with close adult support to ensure their safety. A group of children find a bee and demonstrate their prior learning as they explain that the bee is 'our friend', but we must be careful of its spike because it can sting. Children are building their knowledge and using it to navigate the world around them.
