About this day nursery

St. Luke's Preschool, nestled in Pontefract, boasts over two decades of experience in providing childcare. Recognising the significance of choosing the right preschool, they strive to make this decision easier for parents.

The preschool welcomes children aged 3 and 4, with some openings for 2-year-olds. They pride themselves on an "outstanding" OFSTED rating, encouraging prospective families to visit and experience their environment firsthand.

The dedicated team focuses on nurturing, caring for, and inspiring each child, recognising their individuality. Their approach encourages independence through engaging and stimulating educational activities, preparing children for their next steps in life.

This includes delivering an educational curriculum aligned with the government's Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) standards, covering seven areas of learning daily, ensuring children develop essential skills like numeracy, literacy, and social interaction before entering school. St. Luke's Preschool aims to equip children with a comprehensive foundation for future learning and growth.

Our ethos

We have a wonderfully caring team of practitioners who are trained to nurture, care for and inspire every child in their care to be the best they can be and because we don’t believe that “one size fits all” every child is treated as an individual. It’s a big exciting world out there and we want children to leave for their next steps in life equipped for the journey.

What it's like

The management and staff team has worked hard since the last inspection to make improvements to the quality of children's care and learning. Management has identified a clear curriculum, which staff implement well. Each child is supported to build on their prior knowledge and skills.

Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

SEND provision

Staff use small, focused intervention groups for children who have special educational needs and/disabilities (SEND) effectively. These smaller groups, along with more targeted support offered by each child's key person, aids children's active engagement and helps to narrow gaps in children's achievements. Staff liaise closely with other professionals when identifying learning targets for children with SEND's personalised learning plans.

Outdoor space

Children cross the car park to get to the outside play areas. They hold hands and walk sensibly with a partner when moving between indoors and outside. They are encouraged to be physically active as they run, balance, climb and learn to negotiate space when playing outside.
