St Luke's PreSchool is located in Pontefract and offers care for children from birth to four years old. It operates all year round, opening Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 6pm. The nursery offers funded childcare places for eligible two, three, and four-year-olds. According to the inspector, the management and staff team has made improvements to the quality of care, and a clear curriculum is implemented well to build on children's knowledge and skills.

Ofsted inspected the nursery in June 2024 and judged its overall effectiveness to be Good. The inspector noted that children behave well and are provided with freshly prepared meals. Staff support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities using small intervention groups and targeted support. Children are encouraged to be physically active in the outdoor play areas. To improve further, Ofsted recommended that staff help quieter children increase their vocabulary and support all children in matching counting words with objects.

We have a wonderfully caring team of practitioners who are trained to nurture, care for and inspire every child in their care to be the best they can be and because we don’t believe that “one size fits all” every child is treated as an individual. It’s a big exciting world out there and we want children to leave for their next steps in life equipped for the journey.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Staff use small, focused intervention groups for children who have special educational needs and/disabilities (SEND) effectively. These smaller groups, along with more targeted support offered by each child's key person, aids children's active engagement and helps to narrow gaps in children's achievements. Staff liaise closely with other professionals when identifying learning targets for children with SEND's personalised learning plans.

Outdoor space

Children cross the car park to get to the outside play areas. They hold hands and walk sensibly with a partner when moving between indoors and outside. They are encouraged to be physically active as they run, balance, climb and learn to negotiate space when playing outside.
