About this day nursery

Tiny Tots Nursery in Derby, established in 2016, provides a welcoming, all-year-round childcare setting for children aged 1 to 4 years. 30 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday, the nursery received a "Good" rating in its latest Ofsted inspection on 26th July 2024.

Children visibly enjoy their time at the nursery, settling quickly and exploring a diverse range of activities and toys that staff thoughtfully provide to support their learning and development. The curriculum is designed to follow children's interests, with staff planning activities that motivate them, such as learning about the butterfly life cycle.

Recent improvements have enhanced the outdoor space, offering better opportunities for physical development, where children are encouraged to be resilient and confident while taking risks on garden equipment. While staff generally support communication and language well, they are working on adapting their interactions to ensure all children, including those with SEND, understand instructions, particularly when using complex language.

Routines are embedded with visual prompts, helping children understand daily transitions. Parents consistently express positive feedback, feeling well-informed about their children's progress and appreciating the effective communication methods and supportive relationships with staff.

SEND provision

Overall, staff support children's communication and language well. They sing songs with babies and respond to their vocalisations appropriately. However, at times, staff do not adapt their interactions to the different communication needs of all the children. For example, sometimes staff's language is too complex which results in children not understanding what is being said.

Outdoor space

Staff support and encourage children to be resilient and confident in their play as they take risks when climbing on equipment in the garden. Babies smile and giggle as they develop their balance and coordination as they push little bikes. Recent developments include changes to the outdoor space to improve opportunities for children to support their physical development.

I am very disappointed with this nursery as I have recently learnt that they teach the “rich kids” differently to the “poor kids”. What I mean is, If you pays for fees for your child to attend the nursery and another child can only live off the state (due to low income), therefore only attends the funded hours, you will see their level of experiences & education are different. The children that have working “middle class” parents have more events, such as book days, trips outside and whole lot more experiences. The children that have parents who cannot afford to pay that and rely on government funding (15hr) are kept in the nursery playing the same old rubbish thing day in and day out for the days they’re in. Totally gutted and disappointed that children would be segregated like this and mistreated at such a young age!! I am fuming after hearing what other parents have told me!!! This will be raised with ofsted and also mentioned to the parents whose kids are affected. How could you?!!! I have been a teacher in my past life and for me they’re all the same. I would NEVER do that and would have ensured a rotation for equal experience. Money speaks volume here my dear parents!!! Very disgusted and disappointed. I did take my child out of school and Will never be sending my other children there!!! This review was a long time coming and I just not had the chance to put it up. So those parents who are considering sending their children here. Please speak to ofsted for another review and recommend to ofsted to contact the “poor parents!!!” What a sad discriminative nursery. Absolutely baffled!!

Very happy with the nursery, food and education. Not sure what the other reviews are about, especially about the food, never noticed my children hungry.
