About this day nursery

Established in 1983 and under current management since 2007, Tom Thumb Day Nursery is a family-operated childcare facility run by a brother and sister team. The nursery is purpose-built on a single level, featuring four playrooms and outdoor play areas designed to ensure constant supervision of all children.

Tom Thumb prioritises individual needs, fostering a warm, secure, and respectful environment where children can explore, learn, and develop at their own pace. The approach emphasises physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth, with a strong focus on parental involvement through daily updates, social events, and collaborative partnerships.

The nursery maintains an experienced and stable staff dedicated to the well-being of each child, providing consistent, high-quality care. Tom Thumb is registered and regularly inspected by Ofsted, adhering to national standards of care as governed by the Children Act 1989.

The curriculum is built around a key worker system to tailor activities to individual children's needs and interests, preparing them for the Early Learning Goals and National Curriculum through a mix of structured and free play activities across six key learning areas. The facility includes diverse play areas, a book room, and encourages outdoor play, with additional creative and educational classes available.

They also uphold stringent policies on behaviour, complaints, equal opportunities, and child protection, ensuring an inclusive and safe environment for all children, including those with special needs.

Excellent location, mediocre management. We had a trial week here. It did not work out due to dimwitted and rude management. Our daughter's allergy was made to feel like massive hassle. After telling the team three times that she had a dairy allergy, the manager asked me if she could have butter! We were also told we'd have to buy all her food alternatives and bring them in, and also pay for the staff to have EpiPen training. Not welcoming. I believe it only survives due to its premium location and lack of competition. Avoid.

Simply the best nusery. The staff have soldiered on through the hardest times and the level of care is always excellent. Our son has benefited so much from the stimulating and fun environment.
