About this day nursery

Trust Taplins Childcare, established in 2004, provides a nurturing environment for children aged 0–4 years. 30pm on weekdays, excluding public holidays, the nursery ensures children are happy and enjoy their time, building strong relationships with friends and their key person.

Children show eagerness and motivation during play, focusing on activities due to staff having high expectations. The curriculum is clear and designed to offer meaningful experiences across all areas of learning, supporting children to develop positive attitudes and high concentration.

The nursery places a strong emphasis on children's well-being, including "emotion coaching" to help them label their feelings. For babies, flexible care routines are in place, with "white noise" introduced in the sleep room to promote sounder sleep.

The dedicated Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo) has received thorough training, enabling them to support staff in caring for children with special educational needs. Individual educational plans and specific teaching strategies, such as Makaton and picture communication cards, are effectively used to aid children's progress, with additional funding well-utilised for support.

The nursery is also developing its garden, with plans to enhance outdoor learning opportunities, building on observations of children safely climbing and balancing.

Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

SEND provision

The special educational needs coordinator has received good training to be able to support staff who care for children with special educational needs. She has developed individual educational plans and specific teaching strategies, such as Makaton and picture communication cards, which staff use to aid children's progress. Additional funding is used well to support children's progress.

Outdoor space

The development plan includes developing the garden and researching the ultraviolet sun index rating, which currently restricts children's garden time. Leaders and managers noted that children would safely climb the plastic frame in the garden and sit on the top, pretending to ride a horse, leading to the introduction of recycled props for children to design their own obstacle course, further developing climbing and balancing skills.
