The inspector found that children arrive happy, excited, and emotionally secure, and form relationships with key workers that support their self-esteem.

To extend children's understanding of the wider world, the pre-school takes regular walks to the local woodland to teach children about nature. The setting supports children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), using early screening assessments to identify where additional support is needed. Staff have high expectations for the children and provide engaging learning opportunities to help them develop the skills needed for school. According to the inspection report, parents are highly positive about the pre-school and the progress their children make.

Our ethos

Waterloo Road Community Pre-school's approach to learning emphasises active engagement and play, recognising these as key to how young children process and comprehend the world. They foster learning and development in collaboration with parents, aiming to enrich the local community and deliver an inclusive service that celebrates diversity. Each child is guaranteed a secure and engaging setting where they are encouraged to develop their own ideas and make choices, with their progress nurtured through a keyworker system and opportunities for collaborative play.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are well supported. Staff use early screening assessments to swiftly identify where children require additional support. The manager uses additional funding to support children's individual learning and care needs, such as providing one-to-one support or specific resources and equipment. Staff liaise well with relevant professionals and readily use their advice.

Outdoor space

Children's learning opportunities are extended to develop their understanding of the wider world. Some children do not have access to a garden, so the pre-school goes out for regular walks to the local woodland to teach the children about nature. Children are encouraged to follow their own interests in both the indoor and outdoor environments.
