About this day nursery

Alphabet Lanes Nursery and Pre-school operates with a dedicated team, fostering a unique educational setting where children can thrive through play and immersive learning experiences. Their curriculum is built upon the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, adapted to guide the development of children from birth to five years old.

The nursery is committed to continuous staff development, offering ongoing training to ensure their practitioners are passionate and skilled in supporting each child’s growth. Alphabet Lanes emphasises strong partnerships with parents and carers, valuing their feedback and encouraging open communication to positively impact children's learning journeys.

Founded by Toni Eastmond, an experienced early years teacher and former Children’s Centre Manager, the nursery evolved from a free activity group for young mothers into a full-time early years provision. As a social enterprise, a significant portion of its profits supports a charity dedicated to families and children.

The nursery also actively engages with the community, utilising local resources for learning and collaborating with secondary schools to inspire young people to pursue careers in early years education. They champion lifelong learning for their team and offer apprenticeship and volunteering opportunities to college and university students.

Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

Outdoor space

Children have daily access to the outdoors, where they can exercise. Older children competently dress themselves for outdoor play and enjoy physical activities such as jumping and hopping into hoops.

EAL / language support

Staff support children learning English as an additional language by learning some words in children's home language and using repetition, but sometimes staff read stories very quickly which does not support EAL children and they can become disengaged.

My kids were so happy here and I’m not exaggerating when I say that Toni and her team felt like an extension of our family. The level of care is exceptional. Each child is treated as an individual and the support and advice given to parents was so reassuring and needed. Alphabet Lanes was and is a key part of our ‘village’ - it’s an amazing asset to the West Norwood community and I whole-heartedly recommend it.

Friendly, caring, helpful, sincere - all 3 of our children are at Alphabet Lanes and we are very pleased with how they are being cared for. Our children are visibly happy when they get there - all smiles - and our eldest spends the evenings talking about his friends at nursery and the members of staff who have come to mean so much to him. He'll be sad to leave as he moves on to primary school. Highly recommended.
