About this day nursery

BarBar Nursery provides a nurturing, safe, and secure setting where each child is cherished as an individual. The nursery focuses on fostering confidence, effort, kindness, and humour, while also preparing children for their future school life.

They offer a personalised and flexible service across their various locations, which include Rosary, Stratford Park, and Quedgeley. The nursery operates with an open-door policy, inviting families to visit, meet the staff, and discuss their specific needs.

They maintain high standards in food hygiene and overall care, as evidenced by positive food premises inspections. The team includes experienced early years professionals, some of whom have grown with BarBar from apprenticeships to management roles.

The nursery was founded by two friends, Carol Barker and Sandra Barton, who shared a vision for creating a supportive environment for children, reflected in their name “BarBar” and their butterfly logo symbolising freedom and exploration. Although Carol retired in 2023, the essence of their friendship and dedication to childcare continues.

How they support every child

SEND provision

The manager and staff provide children with special needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and English as an additional language with a learning environment supportive of their needs. The manager works closely with outside agencies and parents to ensure that children receive the best support. Funding is used effectively, tailored to the needs of the children, with some receiving extra sessions and others specific learning resources. The special educational needs coordinator spoke to the inspector about how they support children with SEND.

Outdoor space

Older children discuss with staff how they could climb the tree in the garden. They eagerly recall what they have used at home with their parents to create a tree house. The inspector observed the quality of education being provided, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact that this was having on children's learning.
