How they support every child

SEND provision

Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are supported from the start and are well integrated into their peer group. Staff know how to recognise and respond to gaps in children's learning and seek support swiftly. Leaders work consistently with external support agencies to provide the best interventions for children with SEND. Outdoor space

The outdoor area is a continual area of development to help those children who may not get the chance to play outside when they are not in nursery. Children love climbing, running and riding bikes in the outdoor area. They use rakes and spades to dig and build houses in the gravel pit. Children have endless opportunities to develop their physical skills and remain active, supporting a healthy lifestyle.

Both of my daughters have attended First Step Nursery. My eldest daughter had a speech delay, and during her first year, she would often cry when I dropped her off. I was always worried because she couldn’t speak yet. However, the following year, she became very happy, loved the staff, and learned so much. I am especially grateful to Lisa, who really helped my daughter learn and develop a love for nursery. My second daughter is only 3 months old and has been attending nursery 2 days a week. Even though she is still very young, I feel confident about her being there because of the caring and attentive staff. The manager is also very understanding and always accommodates my situation, which I really appreciate. I highly recommend First Step Nursery to anyone looking for a supportive and nurturing environment for their children.

Our little boy started in June and we have been so happy with the care all the staff has shown since. When I first visited, I got a really nice feeling compared to others I’d also viewed in the area. I always remember the children running up to the manager which made it feel like she was very involved with the children in her care. The staff make it a very warm and welcoming place for everyone in it. My mum and dad have equally always felt welcomed by all staff when they have picked him up. Our little boy struggled to settle in initially but nursery really supported us and gave him extra settling in sessions to help with the transition. Now, he’s a completely different little boy who loves to go in and looks so happy during the day on the pictures we get daily. You can tell he has a close bond with the staff in his room especially when they answer the door in the morning and his face lights up. There is nothing but genuine care for the children in this nursery. We can’t thank them enough for everything they’ve already done for our our little boy and we can’t wait to watch him grow here. I couldn’t recommend this nursery enough!

I just wanted to share how pleased I am with the care my daughter has received at First Steps Nursery. From the very beginning, the staff have been incredibly friendly, approachable, and professional. It’s clear that they genuinely have my daughter’s best interests and wellbeing at heart, which gives me great peace of mind. The staff made a transitions run as smoothly as they possibly could and informed me of any updates upon pick up. Along with communication if any changes to staff working in the room. There is a real sense of team work when you walk through the building. I like that my daughter knows the names of most of the staff. Along with the staff whom may not always provide care to her, know her name when they open the door to her in a morning. The team has created such a warm and nurturing environment, and I can see the positive impact it’s had on my daughter’s confidence and development. Any minor concerns I’ve had along the way have been addressed promptly and effectively, and I’ve always felt listened to and supported. Thank you to all the staff for the care and attention you provide each day – it’s very much appreciated!

My daughter has gone here for over 2 years, from baby room to toddlers & pre-school the staff have always been fantastic. Any issues are resolved quickly, and I habe always felt my daughter is safe and well like ones after here. From a shy cheeky baby to a confident little girl, I know that first steps have helped contribute to her growth! My little baby boy will be coming here when the time is right and I know he's in good hands. Thank you to everyone at first steps for everything, will see you again soon ❤️

My son has been at first steps nursery from 12months to nearly 2 and he has loved it. The room he’s in is big with plenty of space for him to burn off his energy and there’s lots to keep him entertained. They do structured play every morning and afternoon designed to help kids with their development. The meals are nutritious and varied so he’s always trying new foods. His key workers are amazing and keep in touch throughout the day. We’re unfortunately moving out of the area though I wish I could take the nursery, manager and key workers with me as it’s been great for me as a parent and my son attending.
