About this day nursery

Jimmy D's is a small preschool facility located within the grounds of Deeping St James Primary School in Peterborough, offering early years education tailored for children prior to their entry into primary school. The setting is designed to help children seamlessly transition into a school routine, familiarising them with the environment and daily structure of a larger educational institution.

Operating exclusively on weekday afternoons, Jimmy D's provides a focused sessional model, which can be particularly suitable for families seeking shorter, structured learning periods rather than full-day childcare. The ethos of the preschool is centred on nurturing social, emotional, and communication skills within small, manageable groups, fostering a personal and caring atmosphere where staff are known for being friendly, professional, and genuinely attentive to each child's individual needs.

This integrated approach allows children to benefit from shared school facilities like outdoor play areas and ensures a consistent educational pathway through the Early Years Foundation Stage, aligning with the broader curriculum priorities of the primary school.

How they support every child

SEND provision

If staff identify any gaps in children’s learning, they liaise with other professionals to plan for children’s individual needs. Staff implement targets to help close any gaps in children’s learning. This includes providing activities to support children’s speaking skills, for example to introduce two-word phrases for children to copy.

Outdoor space

Staff take children into the hall of the host school to engage in physical activities. Children use towels to wipe down wet equipment in the garden.
