Parade Community Preschool, established in 2000, is a well-regarded childcare setting located in Portsmouth, offering a stimulating environment for children aged 2-4 years. 30am to 4pm, the preschool provides meaningful learning opportunities where children feel safe and secure.
The Ofsted "Good" rating, as of May 2022, reflects the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management. Children are encouraged to make choices about their play, both indoors and outdoors, and staff effectively promote independence and safe risk-taking, for instance, with a tyre swing and climbing apparatus.
The preschool is highly inclusive, with a significant number of children having special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and those who speak English as an additional language (EAL). Staff, many with advanced SEND training, work collaboratively with external professionals to ensure all children make good progress, with particular efforts to break down language barriers for EAL learners.
The curriculum is designed to support and challenge all children, with strong assessment practices to monitor progress and close any developmental gaps. Daily music-and-movement sessions and positive discussions about healthy food choices support children in understanding how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Verbatim quotes recorded in the Ofsted inspection
Parents speak highly of the support they and their children receive from the pre- school, particularly those children with SEND. They comment that the pre-school goes above and beyond to work with other professionals to support their children's needs.
However, some parents comment that they do not receive much detail during handovers and would welcome this to be reviewed.

At times, children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) require encouragement to find activities of choice, and are encouraged by proactive staff to engage positively. A large number of children attending have SEND and are fully supported to make good progress by professionals working together in the pre-school and externally. A number of staff have advanced training to support children with SEND.
Children confidently make choices about where and what they would like to play with inside and out. Children are encouraged to take safe risks during their play, for example, using a tyre swing and navigating up and over climbing apparatus.
A large number of children attending speak English as an additional language. Staff work closely with other professionals to break down language barriers for those children who speak English as an additional language and require translation.
My son attends this pre-school and after previously attending others in Portsmouth it is the best I have come across. The staff are so welcoming and accommodating to the parents and is amazing with the children always interacting with them and thinking of new ways to learn and build their confidence. My son has really progressed well in this preschool
