Scallywags Day Nursery operates as a parent partnership, fostering a cooperative environment established by parents two decades prior. This community-focused ethos continues today, guided by long-serving Nursery Manager Debbie Bull and a dedicated team of educators.
The nursery prides itself on many families returning with subsequent children, cultivating an atmosphere of mutual respect and care among children, parents, and staff. Parents actively participate in their child’s early development through various roles within the nursery, such as assisting with activities or meal times, contributing to maintenance days, and supporting fundraising efforts.
The success of the setting is built on the collaboration of staff and parents working towards shared goals. Scallywags aims to nurture each child's learning and development by providing stimulating experiences that encourage them to explore and understand the world through play.
This takes place in a joyful, well-organised setting where children are encouraged to develop social skills and manage their emotions. The nursery operates from the ground floor of the Mowlem Children and Family Centre in London E2 9DL, featuring two spacious rooms for varied activities, two separate gardens with playground equipment and planting areas, and appropriate facilities for children and adults.
Our ethos
At Scallywags, we believe that children’s needs are met through a strong partnership with parents/carers, and these partnerships are a major factor in children's learning, confidence building and self esteem. We see parents as children’s first educators; their involvement in pre-school ensures that home-based learning and learning opportunities at nursery reinforce one another.

A fantastic day nursery with super caring staff. The after school and holiday club is amazing. They keep us parents updated, but more importantly my children love it! 🫶
