SEND provision

Children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), successfully manage their own personal needs, preparing them well for starting school. Leaders and staff use assessment well to monitor children's progress and identify any emerging concerns, swiftly referring to outside agencies to help children, including those with SEND, to get the help they need to make continued progress.

Outdoor space

Children enjoy many opportunities to build on their early writing skills, such as making marks on the floor outside with rainwater. Children learn about how to keep themselves healthy, enjoying daily opportunities to play outside where they learn about nature and promote their physical skills.

EAL / language support

Children, including those who speak English as an additional language, develop their communication skills well. Staff use a range of strategies, such as signing and picture cards, to help children understand and communicate their needs.

I was very disappointed by the handling of our scheduled nursery visit at Haven Nursery School. The voicemail canceling our appointment, received just a day prior, ended with a casual “good luck with finding somewhere,” which felt detached and dismissive, offering no further assistance or support despite our clear need for a nursery place. There was no apology for the inconvenience or empathy for our situation, which made the experience feel impersonal. Additionally, having already booked a visit, I expected some priority or a more proactive effort to accommodate us for future openings, but the suggestion to simply rebook later felt inadequate. This lack of consideration left a poor impression.

Disappointed by the lack of transparency. I booked a nursery visit after clearly stating we were looking for an immediate place. Only a day before the appointment, I received a voicemail saying there were no spaces available until September — something that should have been communicated from the start. It felt like a waste of time and effort. I expected better communication and consideration.
