About this day nursery

The House that Jack Built Day Nursery, established in October 2000 by Margaret Whelan, offers a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can thrive and reach their full potential. Inspired by her own son, Margaret founded the nursery with a vision for excellent care, learning through play, and a fun-filled atmosphere supported by kind and dedicated staff.

The nursery's philosophy centres on providing secure foundations for future learning, tailoring experiences to individual developmental needs, and encouraging children to progress at their own pace. They are committed to inclusivity, valuing every child, and working closely with families and external professionals for those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Emphasising safety and stimulation, the nursery fosters positive relationships to meet each child’s unique learning journey. With a focus on healthy living, nutritious meals are provided in line with DFE guidelines.

The nursery also offers a free-flow system indoors and outdoors, alongside regular outings to broaden children's experiences within the wider world.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Children show that they feel safe and secure, this includes children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Support for children with SEND is a strength of the nursery. Dedicated staff work successfully in partnership with parents and other agencies, such as speech and language therapists. Staff attend training to further their knowledge of ways to support children with SEND and develop strategies to further their development.

Outdoor space

Children’s physical development is supported well. Staff provide children with regular time outdoors. Older children show how they can climb and balance. Younger children are supported well as they develop early walking skills and navigate the space.
