About this day nursery

Twinkle Star Day Nursery Ltd is a family-operated childcare facility situated in a converted doctor's surgery in North End, Portsmouth. The nursery caters to children aged 3 months to 5 years, providing individualised care and a stimulating learning environment within its bright and spacious setting.

With four rooms on the upper floor for 'Baby Stars' and 'Big Stars' and another four downstairs for 'Space Rangers' and 'Rockets', the nursery offers diverse spaces for play, learning, and socialisation. A kitchen and a large garden area divided into three distinct zones—one with soft flooring for babies, another for older children, and a large communal playing area—enhance the children's experience.

The nursery prioritises strong parent-carer relationships and high standards in line with Ofsted requirements, ensuring children are happy and safe. Each child is assigned a Key Person to oversee their development, plan engaging activities, and communicate with parents.

What Else Could You Score This Amazing Nursery & Pre School other than 5 Stars. We couldn’t have asked for a better start to Wilby’s first four years within an educational environment. Wilby joined Twinkle Star Nursery & Pre-School at just 9 months old and stayed all the way up to a week before starting main school. What a wonderful journey it’s been for everyone involved. A huge thank you to Amy, Belle, Nancy, and Kelly. You were all amazing. Your care, patience, and dedication made all the difference. Wilby thrived in the nurturing environment, and we always felt confident he was in the best hands. The nursery itself is exceptional. Clean, welcoming, and full of joy. The staff go above and beyond to create a safe, stimulating, and loving space where children can grow, learn, and feel truly valued. The daily, weekly and monthly activities were thoughtfully planned. We personally loved as parents "sound of the week and country of the month". The communication with us was excellent, and the atmosphere always seemed positive and encouraging going on Wilby's feedback and our observations. The team at Twinkle Star truly felt like part of the family. We are so grateful for the love and support you’ve shown over the years. Thank you for helping shape Wilby’s early learning, giving him such a great foundation to learn, whilst having a safe environment to grow, have fun and socialise. This is truly the best nursery in Portsmouth in our opinion. We couldn’t recommend it more highly. And in Wilby’s words? “Amy, Belle, and Nancy you still stink!”. However, only in the most lovable and funny way! 😂

The best nursery ever, I couldn’t recommend a better place to send your children. Both of our girls have loved every minute with Twinkle Star Day Nursery over the years and both thrived, had constant smiles on their faces and couldn’t wait to tell us about their days. The staff are amazing, very friendly, professional and are so good with the children. I couldn’t fault a thing and highly recommend. Thank you Twinkle Star for being the absolute best over the years, we will miss you all.

Our family’s experience at Twinkle Star Day Nursery was deeply disappointing and distressing. We received an email from the nursery stating that our three-year-old daughter was “working below her expected age range in most areas” and that she “could not concentrate for more than a few seconds, children her age should have developed these basic skills.” The message also implied that we were not supporting her independence at home. We do not disagree with the principle that nurseries have a duty to identify and raise developmental concerns - that is an important part of early years education. However, we found the way this was framed to be negative, inaccurate, and inconsistent with how early learning should be discussed, particularly given that our daughter is developing steadily and growing up in a bilingual environment. When we raised our concerns and asked that developmental feedback be communicated more constructively and with balanced examples, the manager’s response was defensive and personal. She accused us of being “passive aggressive,” addressed me by the wrong name, and told us that if we were unhappy, we could “take our funding and move settings.” Shortly afterwards, she withdrew our daughter’s nursery place with immediate effect overnight and refused to engage in further correspondence. This decision left us suddenly without childcare and feeling very unsettled about the professionalism and tone of leadership. We reported the matter to the Local Authority, who confirmed that they had met with the manager and owner and discussed the concerns. The manager has since “reflected” and made commitments to improve communication with parents, but for us, the damage was already done. In our experience, the setting did not demonstrate the respectful, collaborative approach required under the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We hope that lessons have been learned so that no other family experiences a similar situation.

Twinkle Star are absolutely amazing, they are so loving and caring and my daughter adored her teachers. They go the extra mile to ensure your child not only has the best time at nursery but to also ensure they are healthy and happy too. They offer fantastic support to parents as well and I always felt happy leaving my daughter with them. My daughter always came home telling me lovely stories about her day and was so sad to leave. Highly recommend, they are not just childcare but a really valuable part of my child’s growing up! We really miss them all! Thankyou Twinkle star for everything and preparing my daughter for big school in September!

Both my daughters have attended Twinkle star & I couldn’t recommend them enough! They have absolutely loved going & I know without a shadow of a doubt that they are looked after with so much love & care. One of my daughters has a health condition and they have all gone above and beyond to meet her needs. I can’t believe how quick 8 years has gone. My babies have become school ready and that is thanks to the nurseries amazing teaching and care! I cannot say enough good things about all the staff & the manager Kelly! WE LOVE THEM & DONT WANT TO LEAVE!
